After being curious about the game for years but never knowing anyone who played, I finally found a group about six months ago and headed off to Wildemount.  I absolutely love this game.  Since then, I've started running my own games, all online (due to COVID and practical restrictions).

Any other dorks of this particular stripe on HC?

I don't play (once when I was a teen - so, 40 years ago). But, I did get caught up in watching Critical Role each week about 5 years ago. They are of course masters at character playing (making me laugh out loud, to sobbing). I have never really thought of diving into it these days. I am not really good at 'role playing', I have hard enough time playing the role of Mikey on a day to day bases. O0 :bottle:

Cool that you have found a group.

I used to DM a lot, maybe 15 years ago. Haven't done it since. DnD is basically all about the group you play it with. Get good people and it'll be great. Get a bunch of boring dorks and that's what it'll be. But learning to DM actually teaches a lot of writing and storytelling skills and isn't easy. I certainly was bad when I first started and it took years before I really learned.

I do miss it, but now everybody's got families, jobs, obligations, responsibilities... the time for a bunch of nerds gathering in basements is over. For better or worse.

That's awesome.  I've played in a few of the 'Role with Pride' games through TorontoDnD and they are usually better than the 'regular' games tbh.  I usually play female characters, always have, and nobody says boo or expects my character to be a half naked pornstar in a chainmail bikini... its refreshing. :)

Also, hey Steve!!! Missed you buddy.  I still show off your woodwork with pride, though since covid, I have less people to show it to.  I miss showing off my wood. 😕

EDIT: Oops, didn't realise I was resurrecting a 4 year old thread.

Forgot to mention, my oldest son is turning 10 this month and we are throwing him a One Piece themed B-Day party... I'm going to run a One Piece themed game for him and 4-5 of his friends. SUPER NERVOUS! Ten year olds are harsh critics, lol.  Also a little rusty, but I used to be quite good, so we'll see what I can come up with. :)

EDIT: HA! You can double post here, excellent.  Suck it Head-Fi! :D

Ok, I think we have our adventuring party for Jack's bday:

Jack - Human (regular, which in this gets +1 to all ability scores in this!?) Warrior (based on Fighter) / Elemental Weapon Subtype + Devil Fruit (he actually rolled and got Gomu Gomu and is so happy)

West - Mink(Tiger) Rogue / Thief Subtype

4 Friends:

Fish Person (Shark) Martial Artist (based on Monk) / Fish Man Karate Subtype

Human (Human Giant, think Garp) Chemist (based on Druid) / Genetics Subtype

Cyborg Tinkerer (based on Wizard) / Robotics Subtype

Human (Variant, for skills and a Haki feat) Marksman (based on Ranger) / Bounty Hunter Subtype

If anyone familiar with One Piece can weigh in on this it would be appreciated as I've only really watched the first season.

Awww, thanks Al. Here is the party... Jack has an obscene amount of Lego, but no fish headed people, so the martial artist is getting a Viktor Krum head (that I'm ordering).

The party assembles...

From left to right, Jack, Westley, Cyborg Tinkerer, Human Giant Geneticist, Fish Man Martial Artist, Bounty Hunter with Giant Slingshot. Pretty happy with all of them, but maybe the Giant Human Geneticist needs some work. Lmk what you think. :)

What West looked like originally, but he's no longer a cat person now and for some reason has the sword of Griffindor and Captain Americas shield... The other is a villain that Jack whipped up for me. :)

I too know nothing about the game (although I have a slight bit of experience with dungeons), but can come to the same conclusion as DOTU.

What happens in the dungeon stays in the dungeon Steve ;)

Woah, just went down a serious Ali Express rabbit hole... too bad I didn't do my preparation further in advance. It's insane what they have, and quite cheap. But shipping takes forever.

Still ordered a few choice pieces for $8.  If nothing else I can use it in the next game as I'm sure these little nerds will want me to do another one eventually. ;)

That's me. ;)

I can fully relate as I was them many moons ago.  Hopefully I can get them to think a bit, work together and not horribly scar them in the process.  *fingers crossed*

I'm keeping it no guns, and have a few fail-safes built in in case it looks like they're going to get in trouble. :D
