Whatever happened to the Moon-Audio amp?

Featured Replies

All I remember was seeing a MOT thread in Head-Fi several months back. It looks like it's been released, but I can't seem to find anything about it. So I take it no one has heard this anything anywhere?

In case you haven't seen it, you can check out the detail (and buy it) from the Moon Audio site. They start at $2200.

I tried it out at the National and it was a very nice balanced amp. One of my favourites at the meet. ;)

because the amp is not hyped.

Yeah, I know it's not hyped, but I'm just wondering why...usually when a new balanced amp is announced and released, it usually goes through a round of hype and make the meets-circuit.

Hmmm, kinda "plain-jane" looking for a $2200 amp.
I don't know, seems straightforward enough. And besides, there's that "inversely proportional to how ugly it is to how good it sounds" myth that needs perpetuating. No, wait, that's headphones.

Probably one the best deals in audio right now, at least as far as mark-up is concerned. KG noted in a previous thread that there's something like $600 in transformers alone, nevermind the rest of the stuff in there. The only negative I see is that I don't like 6DJ8's.

I thought that the amp sounded very good at the national. It's a no nonsense product. Drew hasn't added $200 in casework to boost the price by $1000

I haven't heard of anyone taking the plunge.

I don't want it to look like the B52 or anything like that but if you're going to take the time to have a front panel made you could easily make it more appealing than that, hell even a different font might make all the difference. At some point, and I don't know where it is, part of an audio purchase becomes about the whole package and not just what's on the inside. Wouldn't you agree?
