Do you think it may help to try and move the amp farther away (a few inches) from the power supply? Here is how it is situated right now: When the Fedex woman delivered the amp/power supply the boxes were on top of one another. My partner watched her slide one box off the other and let it drop to the ground (so it dropped about a ft or two). Could this have caused a problem or caused something to come loose enough to cause some hum? The amp/ps were packed pretty well - lots of foam and wooden crates. I want a dead silent tube amp.

Thanks for the translation Nate. I keep hoping that by changing tubes that the low level hum will go away and become like my GS-1 (haha) but I suppose I am just stuck with it this way. It doesn't bother me with music playing and to be fair the level of noise is similar to the hum that I can hear in the background from other sources - like my refrigerator, air conditioner, etc. I think it may be slightly louder in the left channel though.

Interesting discussion. I have a very low level hum with some of my headphones and my Woo Audio WA5-LE (low hum with HD800 out of the high jack - low level hum and maybe a little hiss with the JH13s in the low jack for example) - even with no source. In fact, every tube amp I have owned has had some hum (DV 336SE, DV 3322, SP Extreme), some more than others. I always thought that it was because of the 1940 wiring in my house and the fact that tubes amps weren't perfectly quiet. I asked Jack of Woo Audio about the low level hum and he said that low level hum is perfectly natural for a tube amp. Do you agree? Of course, the B22 isn't a tube amp....

Here here It is too bad that there is a lot of Windows only software.

Isn't there someone in Manhatten? Maybe I missed that part. I was lucky enough to find someone 1 mile from my house, who was very friendly, has done many impressions for singers and only charged $50. I found her by finding the closest audiologist to my house that was on Westone's list and the Sonus website recommended by JH Audio.

grenert: I have a PS3 Blu-Ray and an Oppo DV-980H for upconverting DVDs. Also, we use Media Mall's Playon to stream Hulu and Netflix to the TV so I am good there (although it would be nice to be able to stream hulu without streaming from an external PC). Will the BB employees hook up a TV to a DVD or Blu Ray player and play something that you bring in? Seems like a lot of work especially if I am not going to buy it there.

$2,580.16 from amazon.com directly (you need to put it in your shopping cart and start to check out to see the price) Edit: It seems that the UN46B8500 is not in stock right now at amazon but you can order it at the price I stated above. I saw the UN55B8500 at BB yesterday and it was very nice. I think I am going to go for the non-LED for now and maybe upgrade a few years down the line - just don't think it is worth it. Right now I am leaning towards the Samsung LN52B750 for many reasons (more than just picture quality - and not just because I want to upset Reks ). I spent a lot of time looking at (albeit probably non-calibrated tvs playing non-interesting material) tvs at BB and was pretty impressed with the the LN52B750.

My vote is for Irish bean counter although I suspect that Nate might be right.

IBC I cannot ever understand Al's cryptic posts.

OK, thanks. At least I have some more information to take with me when I audition at the store.

So, what is the difference between something like Panasonic TC-P50G10 and TC-P50V10? They seem to have similar specs except cost. It is Reks opinion that either one of these would be better than a non-LED LCD? Also, I have heard stuff about plasmas making some buzzing noise or getting pixels burned in - both of which worry me.
-
Ok, I guess people can have different opinions. A trip to the local big box store seems to be in order. Possible to get 1080p, good lighting, 50/52" and fast refresh rate below $2000 or should I stick to 46"? We sit about 15 feet away from the TV. Reks: How would you suggest avoiding "splotchy lighting and jittery movement"?
-
The Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10 looks reasonable.

I was looking at Samsung LN52B630. It seems to have some good reviews and is a price that my partner could live with. The only thing that I don't like about it is the stupid red stripe around the outside. I also have to see if a 52" will fit in the TV spot.
-
If buying a plasma TV, is Samsung still the way to go or is there a better company. I am inclined to get another LCD but have not ruled out plasma completely.
-
I guess I am going to have to read up on these LED LCD displays although I don't think my partner is going to let me spend that much cash on it.

My partner and I are thinking that we may want to buy ourselves a new tv for Christmas (probably 50"). Right now we have a Samsung 40" 720p LCD. We have been pretty happy with it but I think it is time for a step up. We have a lot of windows in the living room but do most of our watching at night. Any suggestions? How is Sony vs Samsung?

Other World Computing Mercury On-The-Go Pro 500GB 5400RPM Triple Interface FW800/FW400/USB 2.0 & 1.1 Storage Solution http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/on-the-go I assume that I can reuse the enclosure in the future if I want to upgrade to a SSD or larger/faster SATA drive since they sell them separately.

Nice buy Vicki - exactly the computer I would buy if I were to get one today.

Seams faire

I like Other World Computing but there may be cheaper places. Performance Upgrades; FireWire USB SATA Storage; Memory, more at OWC
