JH13's are shipped and should be here tomorrow! It will be a good weekend.

Hmm, interesting, I thought that keeping the Desktop portable plugged in all the time would lead to me having to send it back every year. I will have to call up HR and ask.
-
I would be very interested to know if the answer to this. I thought you could not since you are supposed to send it back to Headroom to have the battery replaced. Looking at these picture, the batteries looks like they are not easily removable. http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue41/headroom.htm

Al: Thanks for notes about the noise floor with the HR Desktop. This is certainly very tempting indeed. I was planning to do the G-lite + Pico Dac for the office but having an all in one amp/dac (which would make it a possible transportable solution) plus the ability to do optical is very tempting. Do you think the Astrodyne would be noisier than the DPS? I assume that one cannot use the Portable Desktop as a desktop rig (i.e. keeping it plugged in instead of charging the battery and using it unplugged all the time) without having to get a new battery every year - the size of it is nice.

That would be great.

I have a question for Al or whoever else has a Headroom Desktop amp/dac (home) and a pair of JH13's. Is there *any* hiss with this amp on low with the JH13's with the volume at a reasonable level and no music playing? I was originally thinking of trying to get a Glite+DPS and a Pico Dac for the office. But then I was thinking that the Headroom desktop amp/dac is more transportable and I could take it with me for 1-2 week long trips (or maybe I would just be lazy and grab the 2Move or just go for the ipod instead). On the other hand, maybe I will just *try* to build something like a CK2III for the bedroom and move the Stello DA100/HP100 to the office (currently in the bedroom).

Happy Birthday! So what color are the JH13's?

^nice

Nate, that makes a lot of sense.

Ok, will delete and stop complaining. Thanks.

I tried to "upgrade" but it said I wasn't allowed to do that since I was going from Windows Vista Business to Windows 7 Home Premium so I assumed I was doing a clean install (guess not). I will see if I can start from scratch and do a clean install. Since I keep very few "personal" files (all copied to my Mac and backed up there) on the tablet (since the HD is sooooo small) and have very few programs installed, it is not such a big deal for my to restart all over again.

I recently installed Windows 7 on my tablet. It, so far, has been ok - not as bad as Vista or XP. I was trying to see how much room I had on my hard drive to try and do a dual boot Hackintosh tablet. I have hardly anything on the tablet (Windows 7 and Adobe Illustrator plus a few files of my own that take up maybe a few hundred MBs of space). The computer tells me that I have 27GB free out of 68.4GB! WTF!!!! Snooping around a bit I find a folder called Windows.old which has a "size" of 25.2GB and "size on disk" of 20.9GB (presumably all of Windows fu****' Vista and all the programs I had previously on the computer). Anyways, I know this is the Mac thread so I just wanted to complain here and say that Microsoft still has so much to learn from Apple. By the way, anyone know if I can just delete this huge folder and get back half of my harddrive? Is there some way I can reinstall everything and not have this happen.

Of course not *wink wink*

That could have been useful.

Those look slick.

I'm in - got a nice Paula Abdul CD in a white elephant gift exchange to pass along. Seriously, I assume that we should send a gift that we think the person might actually be able to use or even enjoy? I can play CD, SACD and wear a size medium shirt. All other disk will be used for ultimate frisbee.

Very nice combo. We tried the balanced JH13 on Steve's B22 at the last Houston meet and, well, I wouldn't kick it out of bed.
-
Apple is not playing nicely.
-
You know it! Ah, just kidding Steve, I don't need Krav Maga to kick your butt. :p:p:p
-
Not a reason, just a slight setback.
-
Too bad I don't have one of those fancy touch screen tablets (just a digitizer).
-
What a nice guy you are Colin. I went to my first Krav Maga course and it was awesome! I am now installing Windows 7 on my tablet pc. Let's see if it is any better than XP or Vista.

It seems that if you try to open the cover from the back (for example, if you pick it up and it is "upside down") that it could damage the Kindle. I have tried to do this a couple of times but I am pretty gentle and once I felt something was off, I stopped and turned it around. Nothing happened to mine. I could imagine that if you yanked it open from the back, some damage could be caused. Now that I think about it, since you have little monkey(s), maybe you may want to look into a different cover.

I have the leather cover from Amazon and I am happy with it. I like that you can completely fold back the cover. You do have to make sure not pry it open from the back though (as Wayne mentioned above in regard to other similar type covers). I would prefer to have something that has a hard cover and zips closed (to keep out dirt) but haven't found one that I would like. I usually keep the Kindle naked at home and only dress it when I take it out in public. Amazon.com: Amazon Kindle Leather Cover (Fits 6" Display, Latest Generation Kindle): Electronics
