  1. Picked up one of these with the all the disco lights. Has a decent Squeezebox-like UV meter screensaver, but multiple-line display mainly for iPod/iPhone nav.

  3. Thanks for the recommendations guys. Doesn't seem to be any additional content of the HD stations I listen to. And to be honest my local listening ends up being NPR mostly (was hoping for alt content like local PBS TV, but no). For music I'm usually streaming freeform WFMU from across the country off the iPhone. So iPhone navigation trumps. Skullguise, as I understand it that Sony home receiver has no way to turn off the HD Radio reception (and opt instead for the analog signal). Is that correct?
  4. Looks like they're rolling in some of the updates (including blocking) quickly. http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/02/millions-of-buzz-users-and-improvements.html
  5. No worries. There are a lot of businesses on Castro that haven't figured it out either.
  6. Just for a few months years ago. And I wasn't paid very well, but I do know how the city is abbreviated.
  7. I have to pick between two car receivers. Most of the functionality is pretty similar, however the iPod/iPhone navigation is better on one and the other has a HD Radio tuner built in. I'm unlikely to buy the optional HD tuner for the former. As I understand it, HD (Hybrid Digital) allows multiplexing, thus additional content channels and is mandated by the FCC to have at least one channel equal in sound quality to the analog broadcast. What I can't find is any commentary on how many stations multiplex (none of those I listen to appear to), nor even rough real sound quality comparisons. I can't even tell if HD Radio is catching on. Track metadata would be cool though. I was a Sirius subscriber for a few years and I'm hoping HDs claim of "near CD-quality" at least isn't worse than FM, unlike Sirius. Anyone have any experience with HD and opinions if I should choose the model which has it or the model I prefer? Or even a useful link? Merci.

  12. Yeah, we'll see if they rely on general search or develop a trending topics system. I'm not sure about blocking either. Haven't seen anything for it. There's a lot on the security side of things that isn't obvious. The level of publishing security settings is greater in Buzz though, so you have far greater control over who sees what. I'd say out of the gate Buzz does significantly more than Twitter - remove 140 character limit, embed videos, links, and images, private and public group conversations, etc. It's a far more sophisticated platform, but Twitters success is likely due to its simplicity. If you ignore the biggie - expected use case, for a second, conceptually, they're different beasts. A Twitter stream is either private or public and people join and may be blocked. A Buzz post may be completely public (Google indexed, etc.), private to all your contacts/group list, or private to a subset. A stream makes less sense when you have five posts and none of them are viewable by the same people. Facebook is kinda similar, but last time I was on it far less granular. But again much of this confuses me. Not sure how your contacts publishing settings affect viewing your posts and how contacts of contacts interact. Would have been nice of Google worked a bit on documentation before launching a product that conceivably outs a friends contact info.
  13. Just curious, what does Twitter do that Buzz can't?
  14. I think I need less tech posts if I'm developing a reputation. Reportedly, the Jobs quote is actually a bit off and he qualified it as "some departments in Google...," but that matters as little or much as you apply it to the larger picture. A few people are wondering if Googles fight with China will shift them a bit on intellectual property issues. Not sure if this is related, but we'll see. And "musicblogocide 2010" doesn't roll off the tongue, does it?
  15. Believe me I have reservations on some of the choices Goog has made here (at least in what I've explored), but I think Buzz (even with that name) is trying to be more than just a public social tool. So even if you write off the Facebook/Twitterish aspects, it seems they're trying to fix certain IM/email divisions and collaboration problems. It's a simplified Wave platform (more linear and email-like) which possibly has business uses (better group IMing and archiving, etc.). With so little documentation it's not only a bit of a pain to use, it's currently an experiment in screwing over your friends security, so I hope changes get made quickly, but I'd hold off thinking it's only as Googles Twitter. Or at least hold off until it finds it niche. If it becomes mainly a public social tool those other uses may retreat (though that hasn't happened to IM). And those security mistakes don't bode well for non-public social plans. We'll see.
