what are you talking about that's classic 70s brown plastic color--the yuk factor gives it character.

    mmmm tasty headphones
  5. pretty good is an understatement.
  6. that's the surprise wtf option at no additional cost post it and it becomes public domain where everyone is entitled to share opinions.
  7. i received that mpx3 over two years ago and returned it within about two months to Mikhail. if i had known it was a rarity or foresaw a day i wanted to post it i would have taken some pics, but didn't because at the time it wasn't really all that important.
  8. smart is good, but making more than you spend is key and supporting that affluent life style when they aren't making the big bucks and can survive some serious hits now and again.
  9. tell that to mc hammer and many other notables. in fact, most lottery winners go belly up in no time. the rich ones save and spend their money wisely.
  10. i think it is another facet of it. if that's the case they run the risk of not being wealthy for very long. most people with money that spend money like that go belly up...
  11. i beg to differ. most wealthy folks i know are obsessed with their money and wouldn't pay that much unless they believe it is worth it.
  12. the two present the likelihood more are out there and lack of more confirmation doesn't prove anything. i based my commentary on this lock issue on my experience. i didn't realize Mikhail changed the fasteners he uses and currentyly uses. with respect to the upgrades i had been asked what's my "beef" and that's just one of the four or so issues i don't like. though, each person has a right to their own. it wasn't my intention to make it like Mikhail is doing anything wrong, he has the right to charge whatever especially if he's got people willing to pay. and yes, he is very good at selling the upgrades, which i don't fault him for either, but imho value for ones' dollar is not best served especially getting into the $5K to $20K range for a headphone amp.

    aren't KK deep fried...
  14. no one has any true idea what percentage of pop-rivet SP amps are out there, though based on what's been said it's probably very low, but it still doesn't negate the fact that the one i got had pop-rivets and for all the nitpicking about my saying it had been locked at least it was factual. what went wrong with your SDS? how long ago did you get it fixed? if the problem isn't the owners fault or negligence does the SP warranty cover out of pocket shipping back and forth from SP?
  15. self bias and no to little adjustment seems the ideal implementation. is there any reason or benefit to the one that requires user adjustment?
  16. cough, i meant multimeter, cough
  17. well at least with respect to the pop-rivets
  18. thank you, KG. i now have some cred.
  19. my sentiments exactly KG! well said.
  20. what's involved in biasing the es-1 properly? the es-1 had a few biasing turning dials that needed some fine finessing and i think he used an electric reading gauge of some sort. others amps i've seen you just flip a switch, but that might not be the same exact thing.
  21. doesn't the es-1 have to be fine tuned? at the last so cal meet i hosted Mikhail needed to bias the es-1 to get it to sound spot on and i don't believe it was a new amp just one a regular head-fier brought to the meet.
  22. i should also add to that list... 4) amps arriving with issues (obviously i don't know how often it happens, but i've read and heard enough about it to make it a concern)
  23. if that is the case it wasn't right, but i believe Mikhail makes his own chassis now and isn't at the mercy of third party vendors. 2) putting stuff in writing removes doubt and likelihood of confusion. there still seems some unwillingness to show internal pics. 3) in general, SP stuff is rather pricey as are the upgrades, but it's rare to see base models so most go the upgrade route after talking with Mikhail and no one is force to do it. i can still take issue with respect to what he charges for an amp and upgrade pricing.
  24. if i would have known it isn't the norm, i would have taken some--hindsight is 20/20. i take issue with the following: 1) lack of forthrightness with respect to wait time 2) lack of information about internals, upgrades and internal pics 3) exorbitant upgrade premiums
