  1. Snazzy ring-buckle-thingy. Must be good.
  2. I have Netflix, Roku, and of course, Hulu. These are mostly for the wife. All I enjoy are old sci-fi shows (e.g., TNG, DS9, B5, etc) and Conan. Maybe Ill get some Carson DVDs and watch them. Jimmy Kimmel and Craig Ferguson are not bad either, but they are not as good as Coco. Ferguson would be great if they would update his website with a better media player; Worldwide Pants is behind the times in this regard. BTW, anybody remember how Leno likes to do this ho-hum "ah shucks, I'm just an ordinary guy with no agent or lawyer. . . I just do things by handshakes" routine. Well, don't believe it. That guy is a fucking liar. Check this out: Conan to get $32 million to walk from Tonight Show - NYPOST.com This says that Leno has an ironclad, "brilliantly written" agreement that guarantees his production company a staggering $150 million if NBC Universal axes his flailing primetime show. No way a moron like Leno negotiates and writes his own ironclad, brilliantly written $150 million parachute clause. Never happening. He has a team of agents and lawyers. Everything this guy says is pure bullshit.
  3. Uggh. Seriously, the only TV I watch is Conan and my sci-fi DVDs. This really screws up what little bit of down time I have. Here is another link, but it is basically similar to n_maher's above: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/entertainment/2010847989_apustvlenoobrien.html?prmid=head_more He beat me to the punch.
  4. My understanding is that he is negotiating a package for his staff too: Update: O’Brien Talks Held Up Over Staff Severance - Media Decoder Blog - NYTimes.com And, in positive news, Conan also may keep Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and the Masturbating Bear: Conan O'Brien Scores $32.5 Mil from NBC | TMZ.com
  5. Anybody think this looks like a decent Beta? I don't know of oneplustwo; do they do good work? FS: Three Channel Beta22 - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
  6. Went to work, by 10 am I found about 15 different mistakes made by the secretary, went home, got drunk and sang some Johnny Cash songs.
  7. I miss the masturbating bear most of all. For me, that was the real problem with Conan on the Tonight Show; he was too polished and polite, and always seemed obsessed with making sure his guests didn't curse or do anything offensive. In short, it was trying too hard to not offend folks, and, the entertainment value of his show suffered as a result. I hope he does go to Fox. Surely, if there is a broadcast network that won't give a damn what Conan does to get laughs, then it is Fox.
  8. Based on this quote from HF, number (3) may be more involved than my previous post (quoted above) indicates. Specifically, it may involve a double cable: FS: Joseph Grado HP-1000 (HP2) - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
  9. The guy told me that you can drive three miles from his house and point his microphone at a tree in his backyard and hear birds singing. No joke. I know absolutely nothing about microphones, and I suppose I could have misheard him (I don't think I did), but that sounds like a fantastic claim.
  10. He has this whole pitch where he offers three different services: (1) bring them to "close" to NOS for $300 to $400; (2) bring them to NOS for $1200; or (3) bring them up to new and improved for $2000. Number (1) means he will clean them up, and fix anything broken, but no new parts without an additional fee. Number (2) is like (1), but includes new drivers, new headband and new everything else except the metal frame is the same and he does not put new letters on the cup. Number (3) is like (2), but includes extra tweeks to allow sufficient resolution to hear all the details that are present in his "holographic microphone." He states "this is many standard deviations better" than a stock HP1, 2 or 3. Apparently, this option includes tweeks to the drivers, and by his estimation takes at least 10 hours of work to complete. As for me, I'm skeptical. I've read posts here on HC that suggests that each of the above options are the exact same thing. Its in the HP1 vs HP2 thread. Edit: Stretch nailed the quote I was referring to above.
  11. So, 717 is better than GES? How does 717 compare to KGSS?
  12. Just bought some flats from TTVJ. They have helped out hugely with comfort. The sonics are improved too; mostly the lower octaves based on my current music, but I've been hung up on some bass heavy music for the last few weeks. I'm considering sending them in to Joe Grado for a refurb job on them. I'm hesitant, though, since he quotes different prices for performing what sounds like the exact same service. The only reason I'd think about sending them in is that Joe is so freaking old, and I might not have a nother chance. I know that's morbid, but it's also true.
  13. That music was actually composed by John Tesh. Makes me want to give Yanni a second chance.
  14. Pretty happy with the 1100. If you know of a better DAC, let me know.
  15. Yeah, I can tell you that this article is an excellent example of why you shouldn't believe everything you read. In fact, save for the possibility that Conan has specifically contracted to not use some of those ideas, much of this article is bull shit. The most interesting portion of the whole article is this: This portion of the article is correct. Let me give you an example. David Letterman pioneered the idea of Stupid Human Tricks. So, Jay Leno, being the hack he is, has a skit on his show last week called "Don't try this at home," or some other lame shit similar to that. Its exactly like Stupid Human Tricks, except it goes by a different name. Is there any intellectual property issue there? Certainly nothing that would be a winner in court. Similarly, if Conan just has to have a masturbating bear on his Fox show he can just have a masturbating polar bear (that is white) instead of the brown bear he used on his old Late Night show. Issues like Triumph, etc are not as clear cut, but it only takes a little creativity to get around whatever meager rights NBC has. Fuck NBC. I hope they all die of ass cancer.
  16. I love my dynamic phones. Listening to my HP1s now using my EHHA, burning in a few Russian tubes that just came in. The sound is spectacular. The only issue is comfort (mangled left ear), and this is why I keep, and will keep, the D7000. Without listening to Stax, its pretty hard to appreciate how it could sound better than the HP1s. That having been said, if I see a good used set, I'll snatch them up for the reasons described above by spritzer.
  17. I appreciate that. The recommended Stax are damn expensive, so I'd have to find something used. I've lusted after the ZD for along time now. Myself and some other Utah guys are talking of putting a meet together, so hopefully that will give me a chance to audition some Stax setups and a few different amps. After that I'll be in a better position to figure out my next move.
  18. Sigh. Looks like I'm switching to Jimmy Kimmel.
  19. Alright, alright. I'm looking at ebay europe right now. Thanks, guys.
  20. I know this violates my "no DIY rule," but fuck rules; its the weekend. Does anyone have an opinion about this amp? FS: Upgraded, Optimized, World Class Bijou - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
