An update. I sent these in to AT USA for repair. Didn't hear anything for a couple of days. So I left a voicemail with their service department (I had requested an estimate because I did not have receipt for warranty repair). A woman left a voicemail for me shortly thereafter stating that the phones were repaired free of charge and were on their way back. I don't have them yet, but will update once I've received them. So far, though, AT USA is getting two opposable thumbs up.

My parents just got one of the 8500 series and it is pretty great, but I am by no means a videophile.

I know, I know. But I like the 1000 and I wanted to compare the 1100. And I'm thinking about modding one of them and I'm crazy.

In terms of things I am thankful for this year: A steady job, a house, sufficient food and clothing, and relative good health for the majority of my friends and loved ones. And, without getting too cheesy, I am very thankful for this group of kindred spirits, who make my life that much richer.

Beefy, I echo spritzer's comment about kuboten. He (Craig) is awesome. In my experience, Yama's sucks ass. Don't worry too much about the new pads, I think they're kind of nice with the new mesh. Also, the foam backing, iirc, is not necessary to replace. Also, I have worked on a few Staxen, including a memorable fight with my O2 headband assembly, and can vouch for their surprising toughness. That said, spritzer's common sense admonition is, as always, wise. I may have some price quotes from a while back on the stuff you're seeking. I'll try to dig them up.
