  1. The PS Audio PerfectWave DAC is out: PerfectWave DAC : Product Details | PS Audio The DAC is 2995, but PS Audio is offering a trade-in until the end of May. If I understand correctly, send in your DAC and you will receive up to $1000 off (DAC trade-in value appears to be based on MSRP). Brings the unit to $1995. I'm still trying to piece together what exactly this thing does. Is this just a big gizmo, or does it seem like it could be something that sounds good?
  2. Went to yet another Tribeca street fair. This one was totally random, without any semblance of a theme--except for the table filled with GIGANTIC FUCKING SNAKES AND TWO TARANTULAS.
  3. ^exactly, that way you can put your money toward a decent source.
  4. You're in NYC, too? Cool.
  5. Stopped by a small local "audiophile" retailer because I had seen a "Demo Sale" sign in the window. Figured why not, I'll probably snatch up yet another DAC if tempted. Store guy (possibly owner) couldn't care less. Generally waved at the stuff on sale (DVD players and some speakers) and looked out the window. He wasn't nasty, just didn't make any effort whatsoever. I know it can't be fun to be a high-end audio retailer these days, but this treatment is not new. I didn't roll up in a Bentley, but I was wearing a suit and presumably looked like I could buy at least one thing in the store. Are the margins so narrow that these guys really only care about 5-6 figure sales? If that's the business model, so be it. If not, I don't get the attitude. So I pissed all over the windows.
  6. The multiple input/cost thing makes sense. Are accuracy in the time domain and frequency domain mutually exclusive?
  7. Sorry I missed this, Ken. My condolences. I'm glad he was able to go peacefully.
  8. I would think the taqueria would do it's own, er, smoothing in that regard.
  9. I'm upset I didn't get one of those cases despite the fact that I don't need it. Also, for those of you interested in Pelican cases, but unsure of sizing, I recommend the following free thingy: PelicanOEM.com - Free 3D Case Fitter
  10. I'm kinda glad this is USB only. Less want now.
  11. Dropped off and picked up my son at "school" today. Nice way to bookend the workday. Now I'm mooching his mac n cheese.
  12. I agree the see thru rubbermaid stuff is easy and practical. I still want something MOAR awesomer.
  13. See also Insurance Company.
  14. I don't make enough AND I have complicated taxes.
  15. It's clever, but a little bit onerous for a tax return.
  16. Seems like there's a big speed advantage to the single-function units, but I guess that's only as useful as how many big docs I have.
  17. Why are the non-all-in-ones so much more expensive? Ripoff?
  18. So is an all-in-one basically the same thing?
  19. I want to go as paperless as possible at home. Receipts, manuals, invoices--physically storing all that crap is making me nuts. I use sheet fed scanners at work all the time and I love them. But the industrial-strength versions of these things are too expensive. So, based on some initial research, I have identified the following two products: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Scanners | Sheetfed Office Scanners : FUJITSU United States The Neat Company - NeatDesk for Mac Your job is to help me decide on one of the above, or find another competent machine (not a lackey). EDIT: Oh, and it ideally should be Mac-compatible. Go!

    This is killing me.
  21. I have a ton of DIY parts, cables, old iPods, accessories, etc., as I'm sure most of us do. Living in an apartment means little storage space. I have those big clear Rubbermaid bins and the little parts cases, but it's still sort of unwieldy. I want something perfect. How do you store your crap? Any recommendations?
