1. that looks like a Par-Metal chassis skeleton? hmmmm...batteries or hamster powered?
2. edit: i get warm fuzzys at HC.
3. i've always received unlimited complimentary beer when flying Iceland Air coach from Minnesota to Europe. i'm not sure how much corporate welfare exists in Iceland, but i'm guessing you subsidized my beers on some level. needless to say i slept very well.
4. i wasn't clear - i'm referring to the actual process of carrying out a DBT. i agree, amps would be much easier than wire to parse sonic differences. i would personally have a hard time evaluating an amp without being able to play with the volume. kind of like evaluating the road handle of car while riding shotgun (sorry for yet another banal car analogy in an audio discussion). having someone volume match each amp would be tricky and add another variable for error. i think DBTs would be more accurate if they more closely replicated the actual experience.
5. agreed. with the only DBT i've conducted, comparing 3 different cables i built with grossly different geometries and wire, i had to "train"/practice hard and select particular songs prior to the actual test to score 29/30. DBTing amps would be a bitch.
6. if you don't think you'll hear a difference, you probably won't. if you think you'll hear a difference, you probably will. both are biases. a DBT will sort out the latter, but not the former.
7. i'm building one for a friend that's down on his luck, having to sell off most of his headphone gears. i don't think that saying it's indistinguishable from the BM DAC1 is a great compliment either - i own one. what the 'objectivity as religion' types don't understand is that expectation bias cuts both ways.
8. the V-Link is a pretty sweet piece. i slapped it in between my 'puter and my legacy BM DAC1, and poof, there was music. i much prefer the 'puter/V-link to my previous cheap dvd players/DAC1. so much for the DAC1 being immune to jitter?
9. i used the Vishay-Sfernice T93YA trimpots and "minimum" = fully clock-wise. also, i got very little V movement with rotation and then, bam, i was sitting at 1.5V.
10. no problem. after all, you are the guru of AKG excellence .
11. ouch. since DADT has been repealed, am i allowed to come out of the closet and profress my K702 fanboi-ism?
12. bhjazz, i'm not sure what you want in the HP. sounds to me like you just want a new pair of HPs? cheap, awesome and comfortable: K271mkii with Beyer DT880 pads. more forgiving but similar to the K702.
13. . i think i just busted a hernia from laughter. pooping will be a real bitch now.
14. call me superficial, but i couldn't buy a product named Shit. i wouldn't buy something from Asshat Audio or Feces-Fi either.
15. this album was my wife's stocking stuffer for jesus-day. i like what i hear so far, but i'm on an anti-indie kick these days and will probably hate it in a week. this is another late entry as well...it's nice to see RA strum some heavy guitar shit.
16. just fave finds, not albums necessarily released in 2010. if there's a personal story behind the album, please share. as a former aspiring double bassist, and Beethoven lover, i really love this album recorded by my hometown team. the 3 and 8 make for a wonderful album pairing. and when i want to get my groove on while slinging solder and a late entry i picked up last week... fucking.amazing.album.period.especially.when.drunk.double..period..
17. congrats! i don't think you'll have an issue but would recommend a preamp some modest gain.
18. great stuff guys! i appreciate the hand holding. i'm on the fast track to becoming assimilated and took a self photo after my morning coffee. Ocarina practice later this afternoon.
19. i'm 35 yrs old. i rarely use my cell phone. i have zero interest in texting and it annoys me to see other people texting. setting up my wireless router to connect with my Roku player so i can stream Netflix took me a couple of hours. i'm too cheap to buy a cable t.v. package. basically, i would have never spent money on this for myself, but i can say i'm glad to be more a part of the 21st century now.
20. thanks guys. got some time to play around with it last night. very cool gadget.
21. perfect. i guess i'll sip some brandy tonight, crack it open, and throw away the gift receipt (re: edit2).
22. i read that, but what does "your Wi-Fi" connection mean? can i sit in a coffee shop with Wi-Fi and surf, or do i need an iPhone. how's the pic qualities?
23. i'm not a luddite, nor am i trying to come across as an obtuse smart-ass, but what can i "do" with the iPod Touch 32G i just received as a present? i have a nano, but very rarely need portable music. -do i need a special ISP to use the apps or jib the net? -with an LOD, is the iPod a decent source? -any other useful features you guys love? just buy JH13?
