Really? Hmm. Might have to cancel the snipe and try for some 6922s instead. The reason I aimed for 7308s is I want a tube that will last a good long while in the Melos.

So after just over a month of daily use, the Ei 6dj8s crapped out on me. Wow. As a stopgap I put the Sylvania JAN 6922s back in, even though one is slightly microphonic. Surprisingly. the SQ increase is definitely noticeable. I didn't realize quite how much poorer the Ei's sounded until I put the Syl's back in. Funny how that works. I just one an auction for some Bugle Boys, even though the impressions I've read of them in the old Melos tube rolling thread are lukewarm. My snipe was set so low I was positive I wouldn't win them, but I guess I did. I've also got a snipe setup for a pair of Amperex PQ 7308s, which I'm hoping will become my primary tubes in my Melos for a long time to come.

I was just thinking how interesting a comparison between a dynamite and a 4ch beta22 would be.

So give me the scoop. I love the Dynahi sound, but I've never heard the Dynalo. I read an old thread over at *website named censored by moderation team*, and it stated that roughly the -lo is intended for lower impedance phones, while the -hi is intended for higher impedance phones, but that really both low and high impedance phones seem to perform fantastically out of both. My Dynahi is just as kickass with my HD650 as my HP2. Has anyone ever done any lo/hi shootouts, or can make any general comments on their general sound signatures? Thanks for your time!

This is just something I've been tinkering with in my head, not something I'm actually going to do at this point. But I decided to start this thread to see if the idea has any value, and also just to bounce it off all of your heads to look at it from every angle. Has anyone ever heard a reterminated balanced hp-1000 out of a true balanced rig? Even if not, any idea of the potential sonic benefits this could bring? Would it be worth messing with the JGUHBWLSJDYEWLCAQ cable? So far, the HP-2 is the only can I've heard that I like well enough to build a whole system around. Except maybe the HD650.

hey, I'm not anti-tube! in fact I've got a snipe setup on some amperex JAN 7308s as we speak.

Funny you say that, because the amp also came with a pair of black knobs and a black power button, wrapped up separately in the corner of the box. Also included for reasons unknown were not one but two 1/8in to 1/4in headphone connectors.

I just realized that, for the first time since January, I'm listening to music on my rig without a single tube anywhere in the signal path.

A couple of poor pictures. I'll take some better ones this weekend when I have a good long morning of sunshine to open the blinds and snap photos: You can see the 999es, scoffing that it was moved a shelf down to make room for this new slim competitor. Right now I'm listening to FSL Rubber Soul -> foobar asio4all -> usb -> aqvox -> dynahi -> hp-2 and it sounds wonderful. I haven't done any A/Bing with the Modwright because I just feel like listening to music right now.
