According to Fedex, the cart gets here tomorrow! Hopefully I don't fuck it up while trying to align it.

Melos Tubes
I just ordered some of the new production Ei's from The Tube Store, at least as a temporary stop gap until I can explore more exotic options. Thanks for the eBay tip, I'll probably steer clear of there for these purchases.

Melos Tubes
Ahoy mateys! Paging jpak & hirsch, and anyone else who cares to chime in. Looks like I've got a touch of the microfonick in the left channel. Don't notice it at all when music is playing, but when I plug in the cans I can hear it, and after the cans are plugged in, I can tap the volume knob and hear it. No worries though, gave me an excuse to crack open the SHA and see what was going on inside. First, off topic, this amp is dusty as hell, boy. What is a safe way to get rid of this dust? Just some standard compressed air (pc duster)? But on topic, the tubes that were in there were some JAN Phillips 6922s, which sounded fine, but of course I'd like to experiment. New production tubes I'm considering are the Ei Elite 6dj8/6922 (I can find NOTHING on this tube, but folks rave about the 12ax7 Ei Gold Pin, which I have in my phono preamp), and the JJ Tesla 6922, which are cheap as hell and get decent reviews in the old Melos tube rolling thread at HF. NOS considerations are some bugle boys or amperex 6922 pqs, the US versions.

So I haven't got the new cart yet, but I did receive a box of overpriced disc doctor brushes and fluid. Now I just feel like a jackass with my spendy fluid and fancy brushes.

moon audio recabled rs1's/gs1000
I just emailed Drew @ Moon Audio, and he said the recabling is actually done by Grado so that the warranty stays intact. Then I asked John Grado if this was true, and he replied "don't be the next one to get done and find, you can't fade a pimp in his own fuckin rhyme" I was a little suprised at his vulgarity, but I think I understand what he was trying to tell me.

cool, I didn't know moon audio did wood grado recables. looking forward to hearing impressions. I know I really want to get a longer cable on my RS-1, and a nicer cable would be a plus.

hell, I just realized I might could actually give the k1000 a whirl now that I have the dynahi. I think she could have what it takes to power them.

Classical Cans
What are your favorite cans for classical? For me, the HD650 still reigns supreme. I admit, sometimes I do listen to classical on the HP-2, but it does seem to lack the space and bottom end "oomph" that these ears crave on large orchestral works. I have tried, tried, tried so many times with the HD600, but it just doesn't do it for me. I thought the Dynahi might officially "wake them up" for me, but they are just too dry and boring. If the HD600 is a waxy hershey's kiss, the HD650 is a giant gob of dark godiva.

this is why I buy so much old gear, lol. I have bought all my gear unheard, based purely on others' descriptions. basically if it was the FOTM in 2002, and today nobody talks shit about it, I figure it must be true.

okay, this asshole dandi registered in jan. 02 and has 246 posts. He hasn't done SHIT since he joined head-fi but sell gear in the marketplace. All the sudden in 2007 he decides to start pimping equation gear? yes i went through all his posts. And what the hell is this at the bottom of his "all praise is due to the one true headphone rp22" post? fresh and commendable approach? so don't post prices in this thread? what the fuck? of course I've never heard the phones but the above bullshit doesn't exactly inspire my confidence.

Man, I was wondering what happened to this thread! I finished my first Neal Stephenson book, The Diamond Age, a month or so ago. It is one of the gnarliest sci-fi books I've ever read, great stuff! I'm going to give Snow Crash another shot. But currently I'm reading the fifth installment in Steven Erikson's Malazan Book Of The Fallen series. Erikson is a god.
