  1. he did mention sinatra in his thread on sh.tv. did you enjoy yourself at the meet?
  2. There are lots of great options for budget phono, but its true that it seems no TT gets 100% respect from phono enthusiasts until you get to the VPI Scout area, which runs $1600. People will always find bad things to say about the MMF, Rega p1-2, and of course Technics tables. I enjoy my 1200, but its obvious from listening to it that vinyl could just sound so much better.
  3. I bought my ppx3 used, but its harder to find a used singlepower with the features I want. i'm just going to buy two b52s, one for the tt and one for the cdp.
  4. I keep wanting to buy an extreme with two headphone jacks and two inputs so that two people can listen to Grados at the same time, but I'm continually turned off by the ridiculous wait times. Its not so much that I would mind waiting, but I would mind having to constantly call and pester and be bullshitted to.

actually the laser will be powered by pure rock and roll, which presents a challenge. I have to teach the medieval minstrels to kick out a funky groove thang, much like Martin Lawrence did in his classic fish-out-of-water comedy, Black Knight.

Technically the human mind cannot grasp time lengths as vast as one thousand years. Ergo, my claim remains unproven. Solid as a rock.

At three minutes and four seconds after 2 AM on May 6, the time and date will be 02:03:04 05/06/07. This will never happen again.
  12. I know most of you probably already know this from reading over at the sh.tv forums, but this is too exciting not to mention here. Quoted from Steve Hoffman: "As most of the world knows today, it has been announced that Rhino/WB/Reprise has undertaken the most ambitious vinyl reissue program of any major label in recent history. Spurred on by a vinyl lover high up in the Warner Bros./Reprise records administration, I can now reveal that Kevin and I have been remastering for Rhino 180 gram vinyl the cream of the WB/Reprise back catalog for release. Mastered at AcousTech and pressed on virgin vinyl at RTI, Camarillo, these albums will feature the original artwork, track listings and (most importantly to me) are all being cut in true analog from the original Warner Bros./Reprise stereo master mixes, some untouched for 35 years... FRIENDS, this is the time to buy a turntable. Trust me on this: You will not hear these classic titles sound better anywhere, ever!" There are so many cool things in the above quote I don't know where to start. http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=112018
  13. Cool, I'll be sure to check that out! Though in the past I have been weird about books about musicians. Hell, I'm weird about almost any non-fiction book, I tend to lose interest in the first hundred pages or so. The exception to this rule is this book, which is so engaging and entertaining I'm thinking of rereading it.
  14. My yourmusic shipment came with a FREE BOX from the USPS!
  15. Well I should say I've seen people asking for them in excess of $2K. Not sure if any sell for that much.
  16. Unfortunately, excellent condition HP-1000s are starting to go for over $2000 as well.
  17. Unacceptable. I want my $1500 donation back immediately.

    Jane Eyre

Book description on Amazon: An orphan girl's progress from custody of cruel relatives to an oppressive boarding school culminates in a troubled career as a governess. Jane's first assignment at Thornfield, where the proud and cynical master harbors a scandalous secret, draws readers ever deeper into a compelling exploration of the mysteries of the human heart. I don't know man, it has two things I always look for in a great book: a troubling governess career and a scandalous secret.
  20. Hey HP-2 owners/fans, can the HP-2 do classical?
  21. This is a great interview with Steve Hoffman about the mastering process: http://www.metrotimes.com/editorial/story.asp?id=10364 But to put it simply, when someone calls a recording "hot" or "loud", it means the recording was mastered with the volume maximized. This is how the majority of modern rock albums are mastered, and more unfortunately the way most remasters are mastered, because today's recording engineers have wool for ears and record companies know the kids want their music loud. Unfortunately, when music is maximized over the entire audible spectrum, dynamics are completely destroyed, the music has no room to "breathe". If an album's quietest parts are as loud as its loudest parts, then it is a hot recording. I think I summed that up OK.
  22. but they gots 2 be mixin taht shit HOT jpak... its hotter n hell up in teh recird biznes, u don't understand man. NEED THAT SHIT LOUDR B~~~~ FUKN DANCE TRAX YAL
  23. The last excellent condition PS-1 I saw on HF went for $1800.
  24. I think this is why I want to spend my money on either out of production gear, or current production "tried and true" models. It's just too difficult to try and interpret the hype. And since I don't know shit about how audio gear works, I have to rely on the reviews of others to decide what to purchase, and then hope my ears agree. So I'm more prone to trust a review from some old timer I dig up with the search engine on HF from 2002, or from someone who I know is knowledgable here, then a thread with 100 pages about a brand new product.
