  1. Yeah, looks like some sort of bomb, haha.
  2. Those both look cool. I really want to build something with tubes sometime, but I'm going to have to wait for my funds to build back up again. In the meantime I'm going to just put together a twisted pear audio twisted x overture. I've got a working F2, but I don't think it'll have enough power for what I intend.
  3. I'm still poking around a bit and saw the truepath kit over at 41hz.com. Maybe something based on that or some of the hypex.nl UcD modules...
  4. Thanks, Nate, that's very intersting...As you said, who knows how it sounds, but that's a good combo for the tubes (gotta love the 6v6).
  5. I'm probably going to get in on the H2 + TR2 (xlr version) group buy over at the other place, so I figured now would be the time to start researching a speaker amp build. My F2 clone is almost done, but I was wondering what other options were out there.
  6. haha, i got the temptation to own one after i saw that, too
  7. D5000? I had the D2000 and it's been my favorite can I've owned barring the K1K.
  8. I have (metal and hardcore make up at least 60% of my music library, with the rest of it mostly filled with prog and rock other people would probably classify as metal, anyway). I love them with metal, but I bow to the masses and en480c4.
  9. i think i prefer the k1k, though...i shouldn't listen to what other people say, but it still gets under my thin skin i've owned balanced 580's and several grado's (not RS-1 which I've only heard at a meet, though). I'd have to hear some stuff side by side again, but I think I prefer the k1k for metal to everything I've heard.
  10. i inquired about them, but i probably can't afford it...my thin skin has me looking at other headphones now that i've heard my k1k isn't good for metal
  11. I primarily listen to metal and hardcore and the K1K is my only headphone...didn't know they weren't considered so great for the genre, but I'm fine with it
  12. Probably not, but certainly loud enough. With the gain of 2 on my balanced beta22 I generally have the stepped attenuators at 2:00. I agree with you, though, on doing it fucking right, so I have a F2 clone that's just about done. I also have a passive ground beta22 I finished a week or two ago that I'm using as the preamp and also to amp headphones aside from the K1000 if I ever feel like it.
  13. My balanced beta22 (which is in my possesion again, for now) is set with a gain of 2 (which is effectively a gain of 4 when balanced). For me, to my ears, etc., it worked well with the Denon D2000 and also worked just fine for the K1000.
  14. or you could put a zapfilter in there i can confirm that the opus does have electrolytics in the signal path, but it still sounds great. I'm sure it would sound even better with good coupling caps. My preference is shorting them and going with the zapfilter, though
  15. I'm interested in this...to use it as a headamp, just the regular octal or 9-pin kit will do, right?
  16. I have some of those Cardas Myrtle blocks, but I've never really tested them to see if they do anything. I picked 'em up cheap, so I figured worth a shot.
  17. He bought my balanced beta22, but something got damaged in shipping so he wanted to return it. I hope to gods it's something simple to fix so I can sell it again as I'm broke now that I'll have to refund him.
  18. That looks pretty interesting, and I like the idea behind it. I don't have the parts around to try, but maybe I'll be able to order up some soon. I'll probably follow that thread you linked to.
  19. I'm building another Beta22, this one a two board passive ground job to be used as a preamp for the diy F2 I'm also building. I might stick a headphone jack on the Beta22 to use if I ever get some other headphones.
  20. I'm thinkin' I have the second driver. Thanks, thrice.
  21. *drudges up old thread Did he say around what serial number the change was made? I just picked up a pair of K1000, and the serial number on them is 4617.
