Elephas, I think the nature of this board is to both call it like you see it (whether right or wrong or in-between). There's also the carry-over from head-fi and other forums. It's not like there's a clean slate by signing up. Then there's a respect the house thing going on. Kinda like the Ugly American syndrome, where tourists burst into another country and start throwing themselves around without taking the time to get to know much of anything about where they're at. Perhaps a bit vicious to call them out on it. I don't know. Sometimes playing nice isn't a better way to go at all.

Nice score, Purk. Did you pick that one up on audiogon for an amazing price I saw last week? I have to get off my butt and send mine out to John Tucker for the latest tweaks, and then settle in and just be happy with it. I decided that if I'm going to spend crazy money (and that's what it would be at this point for any real gain) on a source upgrade, I'm going vinyl. I, and others, have compared the Exemplar to a number of "better" players, but it more than holds it's own (redbook only). How are you liking it? What tubes are you using?

...keeping with the theme of bass-overload. I backed out of the group buy after hearing it at the recent Florida meet. It's got potential, but in jp#s words, it's not yet ready for prime time. I'm gonna wait and see what the amp guys can do for this one, and if it changes anything.
