  1. That's because the SR-007 is nothing short of awesome and Dan said all the right things. That being said I must admit to hardly touching the 007 after I got my Omega/007 hybrid. Now if I could only get a Blue Hawaii to try them on... There are of course upgrades you could do to the ES-1 such as install a new PSU just for the output stage, fix the filament wiring and add a CCS to the output stage but it would take SP decades to do this if he even could.
  2. Snake oil at it's finest and playing on the major weakness of HF since almost nobody there thinks that something can be crap despite the high price. That idiot at SAA invited me to come to the NY meet in December to try out his cables when I questioned the BHSE cable he's pushing.
  3. Mmmm Ayre... Could be very interesting.
  4. ...and you were expecting anything less?
  5. You should definitely install moar BlackGates as the Rotels don't have enough. I have the RCD-971 and it is a great player that I sadly neglect due to a wealth of other sources. It's similar to the 991 using most of the same chips and design. The only mods I did was to install an IEC connector but a new clock, better opamps in the output stage and some PSU work springs to mind.
  6. Since were on the subject... a point of comparison which lists the mic's used
  7. I don't but that was meant as a joke.
  8. Some well placed Dynamat should take care of that...
  9. Their's planars, of course they are hard to drive. The original T-50 makes most amps cry...
  10. I hope you get your amp up and running again Andy. Mismatched tubes could be the issue with the SR-007's but the extra volume required to push the Stax compared to the He90 could also be the culprit. That means more voltage on the plate which pushes the tubes even harder due to the grounded filament wiring.
  11. My bad...
  12. Now we're talking!!! The Koss cable is far to craptacular for that. The phones need some PC-OCC goodness. How about we beta test the damn thing first...
  13. NO CUTTING ALLOWED!!!
  14. I'll do you one better and offer a replacement cable for the SR-Omega. How one would use it on the SR-007 is beyond me but the offer is still on the table...
  15. I'm sure we could work something out...
  16. The ESP950 did just fine out of my SRM-1 Mk2 P.P. and T1 so those are good places to start from. They are pretty far from being as power hungry as the O2's but still get a nice boost from the BH. Once the economy here bounces back I'll pick up some SR-007A's to modify and we can talk then. It looks like I'll have a surplus of amps soon given my ambitious DIY plans and that includes a couple of Blue Hawaii's...
  17. It was an ingenious plot of being busy and not being able to reply...
  18. Sorry to keep you waiting, damn work stuff taking up too much time. As for the Stax amps... well it's all about the money. If Stax could sell a 6k$ amp with the headphones (Japanese list prices not outrageous dealer markups) then the popular opinion of the 007 would be different but sadly this isn't the case. To make matters worse we have "upgraded" amps that aren't even close to what Stax was trying to achieve with the T2.
  19. It wasn't really designed for the user to change but to be dialed in when the amp is built. Still it's easy enough to relocate the pot so that it can be reached from outside the chassis and setup two test points.
  20. Last I heard the sweet spot was around 620v but the crazy bugger may have pushed them even further...
  21. Ahhh, there's the Doug we all know...
  22. It has a variable bias supply so yes. All of the Headamp units also have a variable bias but you have to adjust it on the PSU board.
  23. I bet that's just the gin...
