  1. I'm going to resist being additionally pedantic about aspect ratios, which is an act of great restraint.... oh, the hell with it. As a still photographer, I spend more time thinking about this particular subject than is probably healthy. Kubrick used 4:3, which is still technically "landscape" as it's wider than it is tall. My favorite aspect ratio for still frame is 4:5, usually in landscape but sometimes in portrait. I actually don't particularly like 3:2, but I publish a lot of photos in that ratio because I have an aversion to cropping. One of the best photographers I know personally primarily uses square format (via either a Hasselblad or one of several Rolleis). His reasoning (besides generally loving TLRs) is that with a square format camera he never has to think which way to hold the camera, he just shoots. This cuts down on composition time, which is essential for a street photographer using a completely manual medium format film camera, but I digress... This doesn't embed for shit, but you should listen to it. Badger Theremin.
  2. Until we reach a point where we're all using our monitors in portrait orientation (which is to say never), failing to film things in landscape mode is a crime against humanity. There is at least one video recording app for Android that, when started in portrait position says "to begin, rotate your phone."
  3. ^ The first thing that made me think of was: Also, people who shoot video with their iPhones in portrait mode are the most annoying thing about online videos, second only to those who record TV and movie clips by pointing their cameraphone at a TV screen. People who do that should have their phones soaked. Mooltipass.

Sup Heads? There are two new Humble Deals going on right now. First up is the Weekly Deal, which as of this writing can get you the lauded Walking Dead game for $4. Second is the Humble Indie Bundle 8, which includes a bunch of stuff that I can't be arsed to list. Hi, Grahame!

A modified version of something I said during a KF game a few nights ago: "I'm following Colin and a Gorefast. One is an odd orange color, makes distorted growling noises in my headphones and can't be trusted with sharp objects. The other is a Gorefast."
