  1. A thread for discussing the "Unisound Golden Series Home Theater AU265-R Speakers." A number of head-casers got these on sale @ ThingFling, and a number more were frustrated when they tried to order them from the same and got an error. I finally got mine today, after FedEx utterly fucked things up failed at delivering them three times in a row. It was a bleeding odyssey for me to get them. The FedEx ground location is on the airport industrial park off Westover AFB in Chicopee, MA (an armpit if there ever was one). The drive ended up taking three times as long as it should have as I tooled around looking for an unmarked street. I haven't so much as taken the speakers out of their boxes yet. When I finally do, I'm going to send white noise through them using one of my spare receivers. It's going to be quite a while before I've got them burned in and positioned, nevermind modded in any fashion. I'm sure there's a few head-casers out there who got in on this deal who will have them up and running (and modded) well before I do.
  2. The message you have entered is too short. Man these ALO designs keep getting weirder and weirder.
  3. /me removes the above from his "to post" folder. The message you have entered is too cold. Where do you think you are, Norway?
  4. A while back, some head-caser (I forget who) made some disparaging remarks about ambient, IDM, and drum n bass. While it is far beyond my abilities to defend Monotonous Snare Music, I do have a keen interest into the other genres. "IDM" (Intelligent Dance Music) is kind of a misnomer at this point, as virtually none of it is remotely danceable. The truth is "IDM" meant something quite different in the first half of the 90s, when it served to differentiate from dance music that was more than insipid house music or moronic raver noise like (shudder) happy hardcore. I used to read the IDM mailing list on hyperreal.org. They had a keen "IDM" logo in the style of IBM. Sadly, I don't have a copy, and couldn't find one on hyperreal. These days, I don't listen to much IDM. There's to many micro-genres made by hipsters with laptops, and I can't stand most of it. That said, the poster children for IDM are among my favorite electronic acts. I am of course referring to Boards of Canada. This is not their best song, but definitely a doozy. The video is pretty keen, too. As a whole, head-case seems to prefer music made with acoustic instruments vs synthesizers. That said, I've seen BoC and the like appear more than a few times in the What Are You Listening To, Two thread. What are some of your favorite ambient and IDM tracks, H-C?
  5. This is Frank's post, you're only reading it.
  6. A wise thing to ponder. This could go in the H-C new user FAQ.
  7. Photos come from the Flickr page of this joker who contributes to the same gearhead group I do.
  8. The message you have entered is too short. These don't have much to do in common, other than that they amuse me.
  9. Today was just gold-plated awesome. My now week-old the stove is far from fixed. The repair man did not come by today. I did receive two phone calls from him. He was a knowledgeable guy and ascertained quickly that I knew what I was talking about. He said it needed a new [circuit[ board, and it'd would be 3-5 business days until it arrives. That's well into next week. Additionally, something I ate last night made me *very* sick, so I got nothing else done today other than evacuating from one end or the other, or wishing I was. I'm still feeling quite ill now, but I am now up, which is an improvement.
  10. The world's shortest man has died in Italy, where he was to take part in a TV show, the program's production company said Tuesday. He Pingping, of China, who was 2 feet, 5.37 inches (74.6 centimeters) tall, had become a recognized figure across the world, often taking part in shows, photo shoots and other events, Guinness World Records said. Don't you even THINK about making a "The message you have entered is too short" joke.
  11. The message you have entered is too short. I'm trying to cut back. I'm down to one pack at a time.
  12. FWIW, I had lyme disease twice in 2006 and 2007. The first time, I was diagnosed within two weeks of being bitten. The second time was several months later. The doctor told me that the symptoms are worse the longer it is between contracting the disease and when diagnosis and treatment begins. True to his word, I suffered significantly worse symptoms the second time. That said, once I got on antibiotics, I was more-or-less back to normal within 10 days. Best of luck with it.
  13. There is a lot of awesome in that room. Shots taken from this auction posted by Tom.

  16. I went to visit my friends Dave and Kate this weekend, which meant I got to see my favorite cat. Ozzie inside thee box to my Korg Z1. In order to get this shot, I had held my 30D upside down. With the 580EX speedlite and diffuser attached, it was an unwieldy apparatus for taking a picture of an only-momentarily cooperative cat. In front of the Korg Z1. He was interested in it the moment I showed up with it. Maybe he liked the color. Ozzie "helping" me mix. More later. Maybe.

Worst start to a scrabble game ever.
  19. Alizee fans are nuts. The following is a result of a 10-minute GIS for "alizee gif". There are so many of these it's mind boggling. There's over 200 in this directory alone: www.sephro.com - /alizee/
  20. The message you have entered is too short. If wishes and but(t)s were clusters of nuts we'd all have a bowl of granola.
  21. Delivered a Korg Z1 physical modeling synth to Dave and Kate's house. Once again shared the CDJs/mixer with an insistent gray cat. DJed though the DST change until right before the sun came up. Passed out. Slept for maybe four hours. Awakened by Dave and Kate arguing. Got up, brushed teeth. Got fed breakfast by Kate. Took Kate's side of the argument (that we should go out and car shop for her.) Piled into Dave's car. Went to the Nissan dealership. Got ignored/rudely treated by the sales staff. Rode in the back while Kate test drove a Nissan Rogue. Noted HOW LOUD THE ROAD NOISE WAS in the back of the Rogue. Went to the Subaru dealership; received much better treatment. Drooled over a used "Saabaru" 9-2X they had for $13K. Drooled even more over the 2010 WRX STI wagon they had in the show room. Suggested Kate look at the Impreza Outback Sport. Left the Subaru dealership, went back to Dave & Kate's place. Got fed dinner by Kate (Dave is more lucky than he knows.) Listened to Dave yell at his cable company rep as he ordered HBO. Helped Dave research the video modes and I/O on the video projector he just bought. Devised a scheme for switching between a DVD player, Playstation 2, Wii and a Dreamcast. Watched the first episode of The Pacific, in SDTV (HD by next week.) Packed up all my gear. Spent 20 minutes looking for my sodding iPod (side pocket of my camera bag ). Drove home. Poured 2 fingers of Scotch and put on my favorite Tom Waits album. I might make an epic Alizee post in Slow Forum ...or I might not.
