Apparently so. I am officially here to meet with the professionals who will blow up the current house, cart of the debris, and then build a new one. That wasn't sufficiently stressful or headache-inducing, so on top of that we have a dead furnace and sub-freezing weather for the next four days. Three calls to the service dept. of the oil company have elicited a "it's on a tech's work list" response. Until then, I sit tight and try not to freeze solid.

It's "wintery mix"-ing on the Vineyard right now. Goes really well with the broken heating system. It's supposed to get into the low 20s tonight. 0_o

Drove across the state. Got on a boat. Got off the boat. Drove to cottage. Hooked up the gas and water. Discovered that the oil burner is once again not working. Utterly failed to get the Blackberry and Macintop to tether. Drove to a known wifi hotspot to download the new version of BB Desktop. Going home and faceplanting. No Scotch in the cottage. \

No longer on a boat, but now in a parking lot. Can't get the Mac and the Blackberry to tether anymore.

As I type this, I am in fact on a boat.

It's impossible to have a discussion about IDM without mentioning the genre's granddaddies, Autechre. Both hugely popular and critically acclaimed, they have grown more and more experimental since their 1991 debut single. Personally, I think they completely lost the plot around 1998. That said, what they did from '93-97 is genius. This is "Bike" from their first album Incunabula. They did better stuff later, but this is a very good introduction to the Ae sound. It's simultaneously sparse and lush, melodic and somewhat dissonant, and possessing a song structure similar to drum n bass(!)

Mac 18 is excellent. I was sorely disappointed by the Cask Strength, however. Dense, leaden, lacking in flavor, and unimproved upon by adding a splash of spring water. Yick. I finished today by dropping a Hafler P125 amp on my bare foot. I am done with audio for the evening. :hoppingaroundononefootemoticon:

Thought for the night: It is never a good idea to decide to move around Yamaha NS-1000s at 1AM after one has been drinking. That said, the Unisounds are now in position. Tonight's critical listening will consist of "do they work?"
