  1. What kind of power do the SR-007s need if the 8 watts of the SRD-7 Pro is not enough? I had read somewhere where someone had posted a note saying that is one of the things they did with the Mk2 is make is more compatible with lower end drivers. Is this correct?
  2. I have a SRD-7 Pro that I plan on using to power the SR-007. I am going to use a Nuforce Icon to power the SRD-7 Pro. Any comments on this arrangement.
  3. I have been talking with Drew already. His price is slightly higher now apparently at 2075$. I told him my time frame is near the end of June.
  4. I will ask this here... Where is the best place to purchase these. Best price with warranty or just the best price. Are these so reliable that you need not concern yourself with the warranty? As an alternative I am thinking about the "Stax srm-t1w stax tube amp/headphones" what price would be reasonable for this set? Thanks
  5. Nuforce Icon....at 199 or 249 depending on if they still have the special on at Amazon.
  6. How about characterizing the sound of the Gamma Pro and SRX-1 compared to the 404, 303 and is there any family resemblance to the Omega and if so how much?
  7. The Stax "Mafia" is right after all. I am stubborn but this is how I learn....by pushing my envelop of understanding by expressing myself as to what I enjoy even if it is painful at times. While I still enjoy the UE9, my new Stax experience has also been very enjoyable. I have a low end Stax setup but even at this level it is clear that you guys are onto something special with this Stax sound. I am using my Stax Gamma Pro + SRM-1 Mk2 Pro + Lavry DA10 + Squeezebox... very enjoyable. I also have the SRX-1 Mk3 normal bias that I can use with the SRX-1 Mk2 Pro and these are very good as well. These two clearly have very different sound profiles. Thanks for keeping this thread going and providing the excellent opinions that I have used for an Stax education. How does the Gamma Pro compare sound wise with the SR-404? 303? Answering which is nearer to the Gamma Pro, SRX-1 would help me understand better the sound profile of the 404 and 303. Which of mine has more family resemblance to the Omega?
  8. I am listening to my Gamma Pro via SRD-7 Pro via Berning micro-ZOTL via Auricap Doc via iMod right now. I am really surprise by the clarity and depth of sound I am hearing. I know many here say there is a long way up the ladder from here but this is very pleasing to me. How will going to a higher wattage amp effect the sound. The Berning micro-ZOTL is a 1 watt per channel amp. It gets plenty loud for me at about 3 o'clock.
  9. Found my answer here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/2817853-post2.html
  10. I just got a SRD-7 and I don't know how to hook it up. It has a cable with a set of banana coming out of the back and a set of banana plugs on the back. Is one supposed to be going to a set of speakers and the other an input set from an amp? Which one is the input set and which one is an output set if this is the case? Thanks
  11. I am also out of my depth in the Stax world but I am attempting to learn. I am also looking for a two plug dual bias version for my "low end" Stax headphones if anyone is offering....but I don't want to spend too much either.
  12. Just sent off payment for another Stax headphone, the Gamma Pro.
  13. I have it connected to my Lavry DA10 XLR-RCA outputs to the RCA inputs of the DIY driver unit. The SR-X MK3 is detailed enough for me to clearly see the difference between the sources that I can use. I have two set up now to that I compare and these are the Lavry and the iMod with the Auricap doc. The Lavry is clearly better. So there are no speaker amps involved in my setup at this time only the Lavry XLR output. Does this mean that the DIY driver is an amp or is this handicapping the SR-X severely by not having a speaker amp in the loop? It is my understanding that the DIY driver by Fitz is a re-boxed SRD-X unit with some upgraded components and works as an amp. This is the unit that I am talking about: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f10/sold-price-drop-stax-sr-x-mk3-electrostatic-headphones-diy-driver-unit-312969/
  14. Having the Stax SR-X MK3 with the Fitz DIY adapter for a few weeks now I have to say that these are sounding much better than I thought they would and did at first. Now my long term interest has been advanced toward a more modern Stax. I am now reading with interest these threads to see what I can learn. One question that seems obvious but to me is not quite is what is the difference between a Stax amp and a Stax driver? The DIY driver I have is a modified SRD-X unit with some upgraded components that Fitz developed. The SR-X unit has also been re-cabled by Fitz. This is the unit that 003 sold a couple of months ago. Anyone with any experience with these units have any comments? Thanks

  16. Actually on the Nuforce forum they said the May 18 ship date was something that Amazon makes up and that they had a few units coming in the day of the post and would be going out soon. So some of those backordered ones will be showing up soon. I hope mine will be one of those.
  17. Not to pressure you but that 199$ is very limited in time now I think. It has been up and down lately on amazon as of late. I got mine order in when it was just back up and then it was down. I posted my info after seeing that it was back up. So I really don't know what is available at this time.
  18. I have read about 15 books over the last 6 weeks while recovering from my quadruple-bypass surgery. Before I got really bad off I read a lot as well. I use to read about four books a month years ago. I am reading at this time C. S. Friedman's Black Sun Rising.
  19. Did you see all the extras including new cables that are coming out for this amp? These are on other threads on the same site: http://www.nuforce.biz/nuforceBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19 and http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=53930.0 Included cables are 1m each for desktop use.
  20. I know this is a little bit above the 150 mark but you might want to check it out at 199$: Amazon.com: NuForce Icon (Integrated Desktop Audio Amplifier, Silver Color).: Electronics http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/index.php?topic=49235.0 I have ordered one of these and am looking to get their new S-1 speakers as well. Here is a review: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/nuforce7/icon.html
  21. I ordered an Icon as well. Looking at the S-1 hard for now as a speaker for it.
  22. I am sure that several of the tube amps here would beat the Yamamoto HA-02 in a comparison but the synergy with my headphone is unmistakable. It also has an unmistakable synergy with the ATH-W1000. I have read one comparison of the HA-02 with the Zana Deux with the HA-02 came up short but it did only cost half as much for the retail price. As I said my second one came in at 575$ and it was a known quantity for me at the time I got it. I would love to own one of the Zana Deux amps one day. I feel they are very well designed compared to some others considered at that level. If I had seen the Almarro earlier I may have had one of those instead of the HA-02 but it is to late for me now. I guess I am just to satisfied with what I have to move from what I have now at this time. One big requirement that I had was concerning heat output. I just did not want anything hotter than the solid state AT-HA5000 that I had and it was hot. The Yamamoto was cool in comparison. Threads like this are always enjoyable for me to learn what is out there and how they compare. Thanks for making this thread more open. Maybe Markl does need to sample the Yamamoto or at least one of them. The Yamamoto SET amps are supposed to be something special as well. The HA-02 is a SEP amp. Noting that the HA-02 is more like a SS amp is very true. When I compared it with the HA5000 the HA5000 came off muddy. Maybe that was the MOSFET haze I have read about. But the HA-02 does have a mellow tube sound with the right headphone.
  23. For the money that I spent last I would suggest the Yamamoto HA-02 at 575$ shipped from the US distributor with full warranty and fresh tubes for his demo unit that was sent out to those US people who reviewed it like 6moons. It matches well with my Ultrasone Edition 9. It runs very cool and only has two tubes that are fairly inexpensive. This amp is almost as easy as using a Solid State unit. Yes, it is the one with the "Pilot Lump".
  24. Are we going to see some of those mercury colored tubes that we have seen being used lately which are very non-eco friendly?
