Happy bday! (Wife sez "nice set"). Graduated from umass in 1990...rock on WAMH...

I can't stop listening: http://icecast.omroep.nl/radio4-eigentijds-mp3.m3u From the big list: http://radiobit.50webs.com

Cool, thanks. That's where I ended up this afternoon. My 1st iteration I had them tied, which was not good when I attached other components to the line level chain.....still wondering about that resistor on the amp side....10ohm? I have mine straight jumpered right now.
-
Ok, I have a chassis ground question. In a two chassis build, with the power supply and transformer in one chassis, and the amp in another, what is the best ground scheme? I mimicked what was done in the β22, and tied the PS chassis to IEC earth ground. Took +V, C, -V and carried through the umbilical directly to the amp board. Shielded RCA inputs float through the volume pot to the amp board inputs. I tied the amp chassis to Common at the entry....I also tried doing it at the RCA jack, but things seem quieter tied to common. I noticed this resistor jumper I circled in this KSA5 photo.....thoughts on doing it this way vs tying other things to chassis?

Here's another one with some measurements: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//bbs.hifidiy.net/thread-866039-1-1.html

Just a reminder to look at KGs post in the KSA5 thread about the ground error in the old PS board. This run of boards still had that error. Easy fix....if you remember to fix it before you start.
-
Yes, and thanks.

Early November I had a PM exchange with him seeking KSA5 board set. He indicated he did have some left and I purchased one of them (pics of the build in the KSA5 thread). He does seem quite busy and PMs did take a while to get answered sometimes. Also, once shipped...it took close to 30 days to get from VN to US, so give it time. I was close to doing a run myself, but Lil Knight did come through. BTW, these are very nice boards and worth the wait.

Thanks, I figured as much, especially with the servo....but I thought I'd check.

How immune do we think the design is to TRS jack shorting? I plan to depower when jacking, but just in case....
-
Ummmm, WoW, and that's an understatement. Thank you to all involved with this project. This is just an absolutely crazy good sounding amp. I'm not done putting together all the packaging and grounds but just had to jack into it with some ad-hoc jumpers. Outstanding!

Did a trial power up this evening....no smoke. Test points measured in high like you said. Took about 5 turns to level it out to .125 Did not get to listen to it yet.....the audio inputs, volume, and outputs are not wired.
-
oo, thanks! exactly what I was looking for.

I'm getting close to the point where I'm able to power up the amp. I've got the trim pots set in the middle (250Ohmz).....any idea how close centered is to the desired bias point? I'm assuming 125mv cold is across the 2ohm output resistor test points. Btw there is an ebay unit up for sale again....2999..

I can shrink em and just upload here.....fixed. Got the PSU up and running after some minor troubleshooting. The big caps I used were snap ins and the hole in the PCB was a hair tight. When I opened the holes up a little to fit them, I inadvertently removed the through plating, leaving them ungrounded (doh). ...now on to finish the amp

I've never ordered such a large BOM from Mouser before, what an outstanding company. Perfectly packaged, labeled, and verified:

Nice! How is your circuit ground tied to chassis ground...looks like you have an RC network there?
-
All three of those I had not considered, thanks! The Lemos I had completely forgotten about and are very cool. What caught my attention on using cat6 is it's available in 22awg and good to 250Mhz. Using the whole cable, much like the DB9 Krell originally used, I've convinced myself it will work well and look good.....until of course my kids plug the computer network into it. Still not sure I'll do it though, there's something special about the mil spec connectors.
-
OMg, that's crap! $12 connectors filled with goo. What brand/model is stamped on the cable...or is that a "custom" bundle?
-
Sweet! Almost done collecting parts here....just need a few more and the boards to come in from Lil' Knight and I'm building. What value Pot did you end up using? I'm going to use Amphenol military PT06A84 as the connectors for the umbilical....but then considered trying Neutrik RJ45 connectors. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Neutrik/NE8FDV-Y110/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvQhAhQbXdbBsdmA6gGtClgIownSYewpEY%3d Looks like they can handle the load and would be very tidy. Thoughts?
-
Thanks. I'm assuming if it stays in class A, the amp won't draw much more from where it is biased at.
-
Very nice! What transformer is that?
