  1. I used this 50VA one from Mouser in my build: http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/410/VPT48-1040-224303.pdf Worked just fine. I did not match anything either.... There is a post earlier in this thread about the bias.....I think it was 125mV cold across the test points on the 2 ohm resistor.
  2. I made the mistake of drilling the PC board a little to make it fit.....removed the through plating. I had to take it back apart (desolder) and then put a jumper in. Don't make that sad mistake. File the cap leads a little. It must sit flush and the solder flow into the hole..
  3. Must have bacon alarm......
  4. I see you're in Baltimore. I'm in Leonardtown. You should bring your amp to the next MD/VA/DC meet over in VA next time they schedule one. It would be fun to have them side by side.
  5. Indeed that makes me sad (and feel old). I commented on a co-workers really cool ZZ Top earrings and got "who's that" as a response....
  6. I wanted to build a KSA5 clone....seems the members here were the only ones that knew what they were doing.
  7. lol, that's creepy, it goes with the music........mesmerizing....
  8. Dang, this is profound....even untrained listeners prefer the sound of HD800 to beats.... Seems they prefer the HD to the LCD as well. Give a person bass and treble knobs and they move them around. Consensus is that headphones should sound like speakers in a reference listening room. Now we have a study to back it up.
  9. Finally hot a chance to bring this to a meet. Seemed to be received very well and got a lot of good comments on power/transparency. Was able to hear it with the LCD-2 and LCD-X...pretty satisfying to hear it drive the LCD-2 so well.
  10. Now there is a turntable to go with them: http://www.linn.co.uk/all-products/turntables/limited-edition-sondek-lp12#details
  11. Happy bday! (Wife sez "nice set"). Graduated from umass in 1990...rock on WAMH...
  12. I can't stop listening: http://icecast.omroep.nl/radio4-eigentijds-mp3.m3u From the big list: http://radiobit.50webs.com
  13. Cool, thanks. That's where I ended up this afternoon. My 1st iteration I had them tied, which was not good when I attached other components to the line level chain.....still wondering about that resistor on the amp side....10ohm? I have mine straight jumpered right now.
  14. Ok, I have a chassis ground question. In a two chassis build, with the power supply and transformer in one chassis, and the amp in another, what is the best ground scheme? I mimicked what was done in the β22, and tied the PS chassis to IEC earth ground. Took +V, C, -V and carried through the umbilical directly to the amp board. Shielded RCA inputs float through the volume pot to the amp board inputs. I tied the amp chassis to Common at the entry....I also tried doing it at the RCA jack, but things seem quieter tied to common. I noticed this resistor jumper I circled in this KSA5 photo.....thoughts on doing it this way vs tying other things to chassis?
  15. Here's another one with some measurements: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A//bbs.hifidiy.net/thread-866039-1-1.html
  16. Just a reminder to look at KGs post in the KSA5 thread about the ground error in the old PS board. This run of boards still had that error. Easy fix....if you remember to fix it before you start.
  17. Early November I had a PM exchange with him seeking KSA5 board set. He indicated he did have some left and I purchased one of them (pics of the build in the KSA5 thread). He does seem quite busy and PMs did take a while to get answered sometimes. Also, once shipped...it took close to 30 days to get from VN to US, so give it time. I was close to doing a run myself, but Lil Knight did come through. BTW, these are very nice boards and worth the wait.
