  1. Oh, so you've read it already. Plenty for postjack to choose from, then.
  2. I've read one thing by Poppy Z. Brite -- Exquisite Corpse. I promised myself never to read anything by her ever again.
  3. Blatantly what? (Not arguing, I seriously don't know which of several directions you were going with this comment.)
  4. Bawls jokes never get old.
  5. Thanks for the info. I'll do some research. Is it VBR? Because I'm not sure that a full-frequency response is necessarily the only goal -- for example, I'm big on group delay distortion (or rather, big on keeping it to a minimum). One of the reasons I like SACD so much, I think. And sorry for being a pig about it. It's just that, when I hear that there's better out there, my first reaction is that I want to hear it for myself. Monsieur Samich -- yeah, wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the higher-end companies have superior pay encoders.
  6. So it was mentioned that LAME sucks balls, what else is out there, that I should try? I'm not agreeing that LAME sucks balls, until I hear something audibly superior myself. That I can use.
  7. Meh, I guess it's funny...if you're 12...
  8. This is the reason on at least my Manley Stingray. It's a dual monoblock design.
  9. That should be doable, although not what I'm working on.
  10. Adblockers? Someone posted a plugin for Firefox that helps, I forget who. Sure they do. Happy ending? Why are all their faces blocked out?
  11. It depends what you're trying to accomplish. If you're trying to image the band in front of you, then above you would be correct. If you're trying to imagine the band is in the room with you while you are lying down (as I would if I were listening to, say, Cowboy Junkies), then normal positioning would probably more likely accomplish that.
  12. It depends on whether they're being grammatically correct about it or not.
  13. No, but when people mean "anal retentive" and say "anal", I correct them. And snicker to myself while doing so. (Incomplete sentence, yes, I know, it's an internet forum.)
  14. Is there an upgrade path, or do I just need to obtain Leopard?
  15. I just installed OS X in a G5. This is my first interaction with Mac. Whee... Yeah, yeah, I know, Tiger is like so last year...
  16. Philips MCD708 (similar to the MCD702 & MCD703)
  17. No, that's the correct use of 'neither'. See the adverb entry on this page.
  18. Just once, and briefly, and not well set up. We have a dealer here in the area that I need to go up and visit and spend an afternoon at. But based on what I've read, my thoughts are: (in caveman voice) Dusty want.
  19. I do. But I still prefer headphones. Not because I think one or the other is better, it's just headphone-listening is more in line with the way I listen to music than speaker-listening is.
  20. Say what? Alright, yeah, kinda... Pedant. And right after you called me an "omni person", which isn't entirely correct, neither. And then misspelled "semantically". Maybe if I had said, "my speakers don't have an off-axis per se", because as soon as you get off-axis with one set of drivers, you're getting more on-axis with another. Which is lobing. Sort of. I guess my point is, they're a lot less dependent on listener position than traditional "directional" driver-based speakers.
  21. Yeah, but my speakers don't have an "off axis", and that's the way I like it.
