QUADZ!!!1! So are those the 988's or 2805's, or whut? Thrice is going to be so jealous.
-
Is this some kind of veiled threat?
-
Didn't you just get the Omega Super 3 XRS speakers? So they're not those...and I don't see anything in their catalog of comparable size to the dimensions you've quoted...have you upgraded to a different brand already?
-
Yeah, the only reason I haven't gotten that Tori box is because it'd make a great Christmas gift. Despite having the largest collection of Tori of anyone I know (not online), it still has quite a bit on that box that I don't.

I like the glowing cable.

Well, no, they (the electrons) don't need to go anywhere, they just "gather" on one side (the positive). Airplanes aren't grounded, and they're cited on the wiki as an example of a Faraday cage that protects its contents (passengers) from sudden charges (lightning strikes). Thinking out loud (which is almost always a mistake -- I liken it to chewing with one's mouth open), I would think that if it works for highly localized DC-ish potential transients, this should extrapolate rather readily to AC. I'm going to just get some slabs of metal and jumper them together and see what it does. Or maybe I'll just bring in my Singlepower Supra++, as that has a metal casing.

Anyone here built a Faraday cage? Strikes me as pretty easy. I've got some sort of RF source in my vicinity here at work, and am tempted to build one for my audio equipment. Basically, it needs to be (a) made of conducting metal, ( continuous (all conducting materials must touch each other) and © ventilated (so heat doesn't build up). Does it need to be grounded? I am not sure I understand why if it does.

No, wait, never mind, that's not balanced...

Conrad Johnson PV-15...?

Okay, so I dropped one of the tubes (one of the 6N11's) before I had a chance to test it. Now, one half of that tube doesn't emit at all. Did I break something? Or would it still work if the other half was fine, and it was broken before (just not as well)? There were no shorts. I think I owe him at least a pair of new production tubes, but he won't have any of it.

Yet another random video thread, youtube or otherwise

Wait, what?!?!? Hulk Hogan had a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1ycbHjePjM ?!?!? But I thought he was gay... -
Justin -- your best bet was what you did -- to have turned them down. 10 units is not enough to do it at a loss ("...labor for free..." == "at a loss", in my book). I think it'd be worth it if you could break even, to break into the Japanese market. Back to the B-52 -- why are the knobs so yellow? They look fake. They don't look like gold, they don't look like brass, they look like...well, "piss" comes to mind.

Movie script for Horror Incorporated -- highly recommended reading, but it could take you an hour or two.
-
Oh...oh...oh...I forgot to ask, did you get to hear EMM Labs' single-box CD player?
-
Best sound of show? Oh, and I really like the blatant use of black tape on white mattresses in that one area. Very ghetto. "Look how little we care about how bad it looks, it's about the sound!"

You think? But then again, I am seriously biased against Ray for a reason: he builds seriously not good amps. I mean, sometimes I believe it's a matter of taste (Hirsch's obsession with the R10's, his previous obsession with the MicroZOTL, etc.), but at least in those cases, I could hear what it was he liked about those equipment. But in the case of RSA, I just don't hear anything good. And KG -- in series? Don't you mean in parallel? What the L would be the point in putting two amps in series? And I didn't think you could do that...? I looked up bridging (earlier today, perchance), and found out that's not even what it means -- it just means driving the two sides (+, -) with two different amps.

I don't have a different set of tubes for anything but the 6DJ8's. I'll ask him if I can borrow it to try to fix it. Not sure he'll let it go, though. He may ask me to do whatever right there in front of him. I mean, he only just got the thing, I'd be hesitant to let it out of my sight, too. I'll take my tube tester to work and see if I can remember how it works.
-
I guess I meant before you get to the point where you seriously consider selling yours.
-
I distinctly remember being underwhelmed -- it was completely lite on the bass. And it wasn't even detailed -- you know how people believe this myth that bass and detailed are mutually exclusive? It had this fake high frequency sheen, but no detail.

Or, as they call it on Head-Fi, the Xiansheng. Alright, I found the tube compliment as being 1 6N3, 2x 6922, 1 6Z4 and 1 6N1. Meh, the only ones of those that I have are the 6922's...and not even that many of those... My boss just bought one (under my recommendation, so there's a little bit of pressure to do well, here). It's distorting. My first guess would be one of the tubes, but he does have a whole new system (using the MF A308 as transport, to long digital cable to cheap DAC to short ICs to Xiang Sheng to Sony MDR-7506/-V6's [i forget which, but it's actually a nice match]), so there's a possibility that it's something else, but I figure: check the tubes first. Any suggestions on the primarily most likely culprit? I guess I need to break out my tube tester, figure out how it works, and bring it to work, and just go through them all. Hirsch? I know it's been a while, but if you've got anything to add, I'd be grateful. You are, after all, the tube Yoda. Or would you prefer 'Tube Spock'? And no, don't suggest new power cords. That would be the last thing I'd be looking at.

I'm trying to think -- I don't think I've heard a worse amp than the Raptor. (Mints don't count, because they're not commercially available.) Am I forgetting something?
-
Did you do that yourself?
-
Sorry, totally screwed up the malapropism -- I meant 'prostate'. Well, no, I meant 'prostrate', but I meant to have misspoke 'prostate'.

Okay, Scully. J/K...I, too, am skeptical.
