  1. It's a vibrator and a dildo. Vibrator -- something that vibrates. Dildo -- penis-shaped ...erm... penis replacement.
  2. Well...I can picture Spinal Tap or Gwar playing one of those things (but not fretless), but...I'm not that gimmicky...I guess the difference between that and what I'm going for is that I would still need to be able to play the thing...
  3. Dude, all of my guitars are gimmicky -- I have a plexiglass/acrylic one, an "aluminator" from Rogue, made entirely out of metal (with cutouts so that it doesn't way a ton), and a Steinberger (one of those headless/bodyless jobbers). Well, (a) most of the music I make is by tapping, for some reason (it just seemed natural); and ( that's why I want the NS/Stick -- it can be strummed and picked and stuff. It would sort of ween me into playing "normal" guitar. Someone also mentioned Warr guitars and Anderson something guitars, which I may look into as well.
  4. Well, that's what I'm trying to decide. I'm more of a keyboardist than I am a guitarist, so I find myself tapping a lot when I screw around on the guitar, but I want to learn guitar proper, hence the thought of getting the NS/Stick...but I love the sound of an active bass (and Chapman Stick, of course), so I'm thinking in that direction, too (also, we don't currently have a bassist in the band, and it'd be nice if I could double, at least as far as writing/recording goes). I guess the deciding factor is if I can get sufficient bass out of a NS/Stick to write basslines, or if I should just go straight to a Chapman Stick. I think I'll end up getting both over the next couple years, but I'm trying to decide which to get now (or rather, "...soonish", as they aren't cheap).
  5. Hey, Jahn, what's a good musical instrument forum? I want to ask some questions about active basses and Chapman Sticks and NS Sticks and Steinberger basses and stuff. I've got G.A.S.
  6. Danke schoen! Is that any cheaper than Beyer charges for them? I guess I can call them and find out.
  7. Does anyone know (a) the part number for the Beyer pad that fits on the Sony headphone, and ( either the URL, or how to order it from Beyer? I can't seem to find it, now that they've revamped their site. I know it's the pad to the DT-250, but that's all I know.
  8. Friend: Why do you have wires and an iPod dangling out of your mouth? Me: Well, she sneezed while I was...
  9. I missed that. And I claim to be a Pink Floyd fan. I suck. LOL, you're actually looking at the album covers.
  10. Hard to tell. Wall girl looks like the actress that played Jenny from Buffy, but that's about all I can tell. I imagine DSOTM girl is asian (so therefore automatically +1 in beauty), but am not sure. And I've always had a thing for redheads, so there's that... What I do know: [wayne]I want to touch the hineys.[/wayne]
  11. For Jahn:
  12. Now there's a buttcrack or two I'd like to spackle... I have that one in poster form.
  13. No, it sounds like just one very massive kettle drum hit...recorded in a cave...I don't think you guys are hearing it. It's like the bass was off for the rest of the song, and suddenly the subwoofer turns on...except I was listening on headphones.
  14. I was talking about the last sentence, I.E. " I still think a lot of "huge" and "night and day" changes people report is largely a factor of the ears and brain adjusting to a new sound." -- I just think it's funny that I accuse you of brainwashing yourself when you're accusing us of brainwashing ourselves. (Overstatement, but I think I've explained the joke now at this point, which I hate doing.) I continue to think you're wrong. I don't usually listen to my equipment as it burns in (except speakers, and even then, I try to keep it to a minimum). Let me rephrase that: I believe you're right about most people. I believe you're wrong about me by lumping me in with that weak-minded crowd.
  15. You keep telling yourself that.

  17. I brought pretzels! The first time I heard it, anyway. Those Newman's Own Bavarian pretzels? Of course I didn't call them a bribe at the time (one doesn't do that), I just said, "you have to try these". And yes, I do want to hear it again, once you fix it/it burns in/whatever.
  18. What the hell is going on at 1:39 of this track? That's more than a kick drum. On a side note: I challenge anyone with good bass on their headphones to listen to that track and say that the bass at that point isn't "visceral" (NSFW -- "I don't give a fuck you fucking fuck" being amongst the lyrics). You should feel that bass down somewhere around your diaphragm.
  19. Congrats! I had my fingers crossed for you the whole time. Been trying to send you positive vibes, but then my fingers cramped up, so I started swearing at you. Sorry about that. Anyway, glad you are finally employed!
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH5gA3YrzVE&NR Yes, that Barney. Watch it anyway. NSFW due to language.
  21. Judges say: over-ruled. He explicitly refered to the EA-4 as new, so when he said 'new' again, I just presumed he meant the EA-4 again. How was I supposed to know that when he said 'new', he actually meant (pauses for Shatner-esque intake of breath) new? I mean, shit, that was just Aug 1... Phidolox -- so is it going to be truly balanced this time?
  22. So there's a bestest evar that's better than the current bestest evar? Well, all I can say in my own defense is that the picture that was shown was of an EA-4. If he mentioned another amp, it wasn't in this thread. EA-9? That's what it should be (IMHO). As it should.
  23. Yeah, it's the EA-4. It's at the bottom of this page.
