Converting ALAC files to FLAC
Well, I have never had issues with foobar and EAC, both free. Foobar works great batch encoding hundreds of files on four threads simultaneously with a core 2 quad.

Yes, our Shelley turned out to be quite the Prof. Jeckell and Mrs. Hyde, no? I never would have suspected that she would have ended up being your first mate of havoc wreaking. Did she also have something to do with where you napped?

What can I say, Al, but I'm getting used to it. Gene broke me in well to handle just these kinds of situations gracefully!

Foobar can definitely do it. I'd use it over DBpoweramp any day.

I guess that makes 3 of us! I haven't experienced a rant like that since Gene at MOA

Post the last thing you bought!
Well, absolute phase isn't so important. The problem with at least one of the ALO Audeze cables at the meet was that the left and right channels were not in phase with each other.

JH Audio stuffs
Well, yeah of course we were hearing the internal DAC, but not before the signal had already been converted D-A, then A-D beforehand. I suppose I should have said "the internal DAC with no previous D/A or A/D conversions must be at least a little bit better."

I agree completely. I went in knowing that I was listening to an unfinished product that was not being utilized to its' fullest possible capacity. However, improvements in the bass and imagining were unquestionable. We used Edwood's HM-801 to get familiar test tracks and better sound than the iPad, but even so, I'm sure the internal DAC must be at least a bit better. I am impressed by Jerry's lastest technical advances, and I look forward to the finished product.

The CanJam "where are you now" thread
Back in LA. Will have to do some careful listening to the HifiMan HE-6's at Edwood's. Our listening session while waiting to board at O'Hare was very promising despite the background noise. Although I did get a few funny looks as I boarded the plane still wearing them. It should be an epic struggle for headphone dominance between the HE-6 and Audeze LCD-2 in the coming months.

Audeze LCD-2
This makes a lot of sense, KG. Both Edwood and I were hearing some funky imaging/phase issues with the LCD-2's we were demoing. They were still quite fantastic sounding nonetheless, killer considering the price. But the comfort was a bit trying on my noggin.
