  1. One problem with those is they used proprietary carts, which is a pain. You can still get support through Sound Smith, but my inexpert opinion is you'd do better by starting with a more conventional setup that you can mess around with more freely.

  3. So when I first got my turntable, I just set it up all haphazard-like and got down to enjoying the music. Since then I've gradually acquired a small collection of tools of the trade -- proper level, decent stylus force gauge, appropriate cartridge protractor etc. -- and today I spent a couple of hours getting everything dialed in pretty close to theoretically perfect. Guess what, it sounds worse.
  4. But you can run a garden hose into it! Yes, that's a USB cable.

  11. It also rather depends on what kind of music you're going to be looking for on SACD, Dinny. Rock isn't that well represented in the total catalog so far and they really aren't going to be making many more, barring some miraculous resurrection of the format. With some difficulty.
  12. Agree. Always reluctant to whack people with some technical knowledge and DIY DNA. Let's hope for personal growth.
  13. You obviously have some technical chops to contribute, but you're coming off here as a bit of a wanker. Tone matters, in conversation as in the digital reproduction of music. Scratch that, a complete wanker.

Twitteriffic, WriteRoom and couple of other decent Mac apps bundled for free. Can't really quibble with that.

  16. Yeah, well I hope I'm wrong and Eejit is right, but the get-out-right-now-for-a-small-loss strategy still looks the smart option to me. From bitter experience, early signs of flakiness often reliably foreshadow later proof of fakiness.
  17. Fee-free refund is only for 60 days, I think.
