  1. Has anyone in the Denon market checked out the Zu 103? Trust me, this cartridge is fantastic.
  2. I just got a new bad ass cable for my 800's, but I still think the 90's rank the best after all these years.
  3. Well, there isn't any reason to jerk off, I may as well do it right once. I have been looking for an excuse to get a Mac for a long time. The computer seems very cool so far. I won't have the Ayre for another two months due to slow mail, but at least I can start archiving now.
  4. OK, so I just bought a Mac with a terabyte drive and ordered a Amarra mini (assuming I can upgrade later). Hopefully I am all set for the arrival of the Ayre.........
  5. Thanks - I plan on looking some Mac laptops tomorrow to get started.
  6. Cool set up! My primary rig is Basis 2500 Signature with a Vector 4 arm and Air Tight PC-1. It is encouraging to hear that computers as sources are coming of age. It is a real burden having so many CD's on the boat. Thanks for the tips.
  7. That's cool - thanks again. Does VPI imply you have a VPI? I have a heavily modified HW19 MK 4 with an ET 2 arm. My heavy duty spending last week was a Sumiko Palos Santos Presentation to try on it.
  8. Thanks! This looks like a cheap way to start. I can always upgrade if I like it. I just spent a fortune on Christmas and a new bad ass moving coil as a gift to myself.
  9. My new PS 1000's just arrived. They sound promising, but seem to need some serious break in time. Anyone out there been through this? If so, how long did it take?
  10. Then the MAC Mini might be a viable solution reasonably priced. I will only use the PC for music, I have a nice company laptop I use for everything else. Pardon the ignorance, I have pretty much avoided using a PC as a source, and I am shockingly ignorant.
  11. Thanks again to all - sooooooooooo Amarra is a program I can order that is compatible on my normal shit PC, and can be if I decide to get a Mac? If this is the case, I can save money on the actual computer and storage for the time be. The Amarra I am looking at is $995.
  12. Thanks to all for the tips - I have been looking for an excuse to buy a Mac....
  13. Thanks for the tips - I will check it all out once the Ayre arrives and publish my thoughts. I see you are in Fukaoka, I have been there many times. Bob
  14. I could probably find this by searching the site, but I'm lazy and stupid when it comes to using a PC as a source. I ordered the Ayre QB 9 last week, and intend on trying to use my computer as a source in an attempt to downsize my CD collection on the boat. I want to use lossless format and get the best sound I can. I have just a regular Toshiba laptop and a generic terabyte drive. Can anyone advise me as to whether I should get a better computer (such as Mac laptop dedicated for music only), any specific hard drive, which program to use, and if there are any high end USB cables for sale? I have some pretty good source equipment, and I am very picky about the playback quality. Thanks. Bob
  15. Those headphones look really cheesy on the B & W site.
  16. I just added this to my collection, a Sumiko Palos Santos Presentation. I hope it sounds good!
  17. It's only dirty if suffer from premature majuscule defenestration.
  18. Anyone heard the ARC Ref Phono 2 yet? I love my PH-7 and almost feel good enough to just order the damn thing unheard.
  19. How do you like the GS 1000's? I heard the new PS 1000's in Singapore and liked them enough to order a pair recently, but they have yet to arrive. The only other Grados I had that had any real playing time on them were RS-1's, and they were just uncomfortable as hell. The PS 1000's seemed very promising and comfortable. He suggests recabling with Crystal cables.
