  1. They look like they are the same headphone as these : http://www.grandsun.net.cn/en/product/product_Details.asp?id=1 There was a thread over at the other place recently about these. 2. I should just do that and sell the boards I have. Or I should just get rid of the boards and buy a DAC since it seems the Alien is a bit overhyped from another thread I was just reading here.
  3. Could anyone who has succesfully built an issue free AlienDAC post your BOM? I will be placing my parts order through mouser or digikey on Friday and want to make sure I get it all in one fell swoop. I spent some time reading the long thread over at HF and it seems like to many people tried something different and it didn't work out. This will only be the second audio gizmo I've built (1st was a CMOY) so any other comments or advice would be appreciated.
  4. I have always felt that of all the artists I like, Trent Reznor probably has the most control over the final sound on his records, and does not take it lightly. The Fragile is an incredible album (Sound Q and Music Q, IMO) and you guys really make me want to hear the vinyl version. aardvark baguette said that the vinyl transfer seemed to lack a bit of "bite" (I'm reading as impact and attack?), something I have heard when people are talking about other vinyl transfers as well, I wonder if this is just a common byproduct of the process, or an attribute of vinyl in general? EdipisReks, your comments on the intros and outros makes me really want a vinyl transfer of this CD now I am really curious about the song lineup since it seems to run together so naturally as is on CD. With the exception of "StarFuckers", which could have been left off the album. deepak, I doubt I will never get to own a $4000+ turntable rig accompanied with many other high end goodies. The added presence comments soom like they could go with aardvarks comment about slightly less bite - like trading some fast attack and impact for a more "airy" over all sound. I bet it didn't hurt that it was also being played on an amazing rig. Well sorry to post a bunch of blah blah blah here, but the response quality is appreciated over another place, and it's hard not to get enthusiastic
  5. How does "The Fragile" sound on vinyl compared to CD? It is my favorite NIN album by a long shot, never gets old. "The Great Below" is incredible.
  6. Sorry. The discernable heft of an SACD jewel case in comparison to the standard redbook CD exudes a certain sense of quality that makes my nether regions tingle with delight.
  7. Audio-Technica ATH-RE3 "Retro Face" Headphone (White)
  8. I just play Darude's Sandstorm and place the headphones right behind my ears, I can pretend I'm running from the music... do d-d-d-d-doo I joke. Good electronica is great for excercise.
  9. When I was running with music (I know prefer to just run after living downtown and nearly getting hiot by cars all the time), I like good hip-hop like Aesop Rock's "None Shall Pass", Talib Kweli's "Quality", and Del's "Deltron 3030". Some simple aggressive metal like Hatebreed works well.
  10. LFF, have you heard many of the K2HD CDs? If so, what is your opinion. I only own "Symphonic Dances" as stated above, but I think I will be buying more.
  11. K2HD does sound pretty fucking incredible to my lowly ears though. Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances on Reference Recordings "HDCD" I need a cigarette when I'm done listening to that CD.
  12. Are you referring to the cases that SACDs come in? If so I agree, nice heft and they feel much more quality.
  13. So I am getting ready to order a Hakko 936 as my cheap-o irons have pretty much had it. Which soldering tips do you guys recommend? I'm not real big on single use tools, so which tip would you consider the swiss army knife for the Hakko? I will be soldering my first SMD parts so something that runs the gammut would be great. Thanks
  14. BT "This Binary Universe" Awesome album for any fan of epic soundtrack electronic music. Comes with an awesome 5.1 channel DVD with animations for the whole album. Apparently there is going to be a "This Binary Universe II", and it is on my short list of most anticipated albums. wiki link that does a good job giving this album credit where due
  15. Right around 7:58 some old Stax make an appearance as well.
  16. I'm not concerned about the danger aspect, I am very safety conscious. I have worked around electricity and was an automotive technician for years (welding, machine shop equipment, tools, wiring diagrams) . I am proficient with a multimeter (Fluke 88 ), and it's really the PCB soldering and case work I want to have more practice time with. After completion I'll take the amp over to my dads house for testing before firing it up from a wall outlet (he used to do electronics with the military).
  17. I just checked out the Tubelad page on the Simple SE and I think I am going to build one of these. It looks like a great tube DIY project to cut my teeth on and I'd have an awesome amp for my dormant Inifnity RS10b's. Thanks for the post!
  18. Welcom Asr, I've always enjoyed your posts. It's from Descent right?
  19. I think I was googling something to do with Stax and ended up here. Read a few posts and saw some familiar names so I registered. I really have nothing to contribute (see gear in sig ), but the chat room is cool and the quality of the posting is better... well at least it's funnier.
  20. Just ate some tasty Goldfish.
  21. KSC75 > JVC Marshmellows (pretty much gear free right now)
