At 12:35 I booted the laptop with a Fedora 7 DVD in teh drive. It is now 12:51, and I am posting form my shiny new install, using wifi.

Your sig sucks, but the fact that you loaded linux, and the first thing you did was log on to Head-Case to brag about how fast the install was (and the fact itself that it was fast) is cool beyond words.

The FIRST thing I did was compile the wireless drivers, and patch the kernel, but you apparantly knew that already.

Hmm, what is your opinion of a long battery life? 5 hours? I personally don't know of any cheap laptops with exceptional stock battery life. I would however suggest getting a spare or larger capacity battery. That may free up some more options for you.

I was already looking at the refurbed levonos, but all the decent T series got sold and I think the small screen of the X series is gonna frustrate me.

The R series is a monster. Huge, heavy, crappy battery. T or X. You can get an X with a 14" display, too.

i went to circuit city, and they had a nice thinkpad R61i for like 30% off, around 700 with rebates. I needed the computer quickly so I just got this one.
