Mackies can be good, although more expensive than the M Audios. What are those white speakers that Tyll is ga-ga over? He shows his new desktop amp setup with them all the time. They sound damn good.

The speakers Tyll uses with his desktop setup are Amphion Ions.

Amphion Ions, which I quickly found out are a touch expensive for computer speakers. At least for me they were.

edit - Mike beat me to it, but didn't provide a link so I chimed in anyway.

They are not cheap but they sound good. If I was buying a pair of monitors for my office I would pick up a pair of System-Audio SA505 ($599 retail) which can be found from time to time on Audiogon for $300. Neither these or the Amphions are powered speakers. They both require an amp.

The Philips system that I mentioned way back when appear to be no longer sold by Costco. Alas. And me never having picked up a pair. Alas.

Has anyone heard the Legacy Audio Studio or Von Schweikert VR1?

Hey Dusty, could you specify which model was it on the CostCo link you posted before?
