March 28, 200620 yr They're on the blanket underneath the cables? They're not very deep impressions. :rimshot:
March 28, 200620 yr Author yea it does sound like the equinox. fat bass, very nice vocal (great body and presence), not the most technically accomplished cable i have but very fun nonetheless.
March 29, 200620 yr Author seems like the bottleneck of the GE cable is the stock sennheiser plugs. the background is not as clean and as focused as it should. the equniox and headphile also had the same problem when i tried them. the zu, cardas and silver dragon had no stock wire in the signal path so they didn't have the same problem.
March 29, 200620 yr Author wouldn't the bottleneck on all of them be the wire running from the jack to the driver? the wire running from the jack to the driver is like a 40 awg copper magnet wire. impossible to replace without screwing up the driver.
March 29, 200620 yr Thats not true a few people are sucessfully running their 580/600/650 with their favorite replacement cable hard wired to the driver.
March 29, 200620 yr Author Thats not true a few people are sucessfully running their 580/600/650 with their favorite replacement cable hard wired to the driver. but how?
March 29, 200620 yr i imagine it goes something like this: desolder existing wire. solder on new wire. reassemble. listen. No, it's a little more complicated than that. Something like this: - disassemble outer casing; - notice how tiny the wire is; - sweat; - go to head-fi and post to shed some nervous energy; - change mind, reassemble; - change mind again, disassemble outer casing; - clip alligator clips to drain heat; - sweat; - go to head-fi; - pee break; - drink; - pee break; - warm up soldering iron; - wipe hands; - do it; - reassemble; - let cool; - listen; - breath sigh of relief; - go post on head-fi; - drink heavily.
March 29, 200620 yr You forgot about screwing it up once or twice, screaming, and posting to head-fi. Also, I personally have found I solder a bit better if I have a drink first (calm the shaky hands )
March 31, 200620 yr actually the cable is soldered directly to the pins so there is no stock wire in the signal path.
April 2, 200620 yr Great! Thanks for sending it my way. I'll let you know once I get it. Good to hear. Thanks Tiberian. Yes, please let me know once it shows up Juan.
April 2, 200620 yr Sure thing, although the Singlepower balanced amplifier that was supposed to show up from repairs today, did not. So at of this moment I do not have a balanced headphone amplifier at hand. If the headphone amp does not shows up soon, I will update (it has been a long wait for the repairs) and most likely it will be better to send to the next person that wants to audition the cable. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it is really unfortunate and completely out of my hands, long wait...
April 3, 200620 yr Actually, go ahead and send them. This will be exciting! I will be very surprised if the amp does not get here very soon. *cross my fingers*
April 4, 200620 yr GE balanced cable arrived. I hope the singlepower amp shows up soon. I do have an XLR-->RCA adapter, so I can listen to the cable. But it will great to use it as it is designed to. I should be able to listen along with other cables soon.
April 4, 200620 yr I should send you GE's new silver alloy balanced senn cable, but I think I'm probably going to end up buying this demo one so too bad
