  1. There is definitely something to the ritual of getting ready to listen... music on the computer is much more casual and I am usually multi-tasking while listening. It's a really bad sign that I have wished that I could listen to multiple streams of audio at once. Theoretically, I could turn on captions on YouTube, for example, but it clearly means the quality of the experience will be diminished by orders of magnitude.
  2. Happy Birthday!
  3. I have to press at least 4 buttons to turn on my stereo (preamp, power amp 1, power amp 2, and source)... it's kind of ridiculous and completely against the point of a modern consumer audio product. Listening to music on my stereo is a very deliberate choice, but I listen to much more music on my computer (99% of the time).
  4. When he mentioned the actual transport mechanism is manufactured by D+M (Denon / Marantz), it made more sense. They probably don't estimate a large sales volume for this product. I was surprised to hear they send out units to beta testers. I thought most manufacturers did everything in-house.
  5. Bel Canto – Renée Fleming
  6. Interesting that PS Audio is still putting money into SACD at this point. I wonder if they are planning to release a new DAC as well:
  7. The YouTube hive mind shared this unlikely "gift" with me earlier today... I decided not to purchase Enya's Watermark: The kids are alright Fast Car – Tracy Chapman (imy2 cover) Obligatory rick roll
  8. The Infinite Horizon by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto A retelling of Homer's Odyssey, set during the collapse of civilization in the near future... sadly prophetic
  9. The White Stripes (1999) So Tough – Saint Etienne
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. I hope the pop filter is adjustable
  12. Finally found my dream headphones:

  14. I hope the series lives up to its potential:

  15. I've enjoyed most of his books, but The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. was terrible. It had the outlines of Stephenson's usual obsessions, but the plot was terribly weak, the characterizations were cartoonish, and it went way too far in terms of self-indulgence and laziness. I took a hard pass on The Mongoliad. I read half of Seveneves before my library loan expired – I'll get back to finishing it at some point. I loved Reamde, despite its flaws, and I'm looking forward to reading Fall.
  16. Gidget Dela Llana (I Don't Want to Wait – Paula Cole) You've Got a Friend – Carole King
  17. I'm going to attempt Neal Stephenson's Fall at some point.
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Maybe a little redundant, but I finally received my copy of J.G. Ballard's High-Rise and I'm enjoying it immensely. The novel is clearly satirical and the film seems to have lost that feeling somewhere in translation. I got the one with the movie cover on purpose, as the novel is supposed to be about a disaster and the movie was one, unintentionally. Looks like a slew of cover artists attempted to visualize the story with varying degrees of success. It is a near-insurmountable challenge to make a condominium appear fascinating to the reading public. https://www.4thestate.co.uk/2015/11/high-rise-40-years-of-cover-design/
