Okay, I'm sure this has already been tried, but for the heck of it I'll ask - have you used a recent Handbrake version to transcode from .mkv to h.264 .mp4/.m4v (with an extremely high bitrates to minimize secondary artifacts), then author a DVD (which will use another transcoding step to older MPEG-2) with Sonic/Roxio/etc.?

I wonder if this software is not only cheaper initially, but doubly so with the lower hardware requirements (if the comparison page is to be believed). Is it true Amarra plays back audio files twice? Favorite part for me is this doesn't require a f$&@king iKey (and a wasted USB port).
