  1. The millennials/zoomers are now in a position where a college degree is more like a high school degree was 40 years ago. Employers want a degree for even entry level stuff that is brain dead work. And they pay crap. If you don't get specialized, good luck. And with Asian and India degree mills working overtime, guys with master's degrees show up at job interviews all the time. About 10 minutes into the interview you wonder how the guy tied his own shoes.Yes, I'm in my 60's. Thank god my kids have it together.
  2. Appropriately the thinkers avatar is Frosty the snowman. As in just born today.
  3. light bulbs with firmware????????? I get enough of that crap at work. I want my lights to just light up. And I don't need to chat with my fridge either. But I do hear that pineapple juice pop calling out "eat me"
  4. god i'm getting old. Had to google 4chan and LARP.
  5. And on the other end of the scale the Mrs looks pretty good
  6. Long way of saying"we'll deliver it when we're good and ready". It still can't be as useless as USPS tracking.
  7. Not a lot of fans here at all. Other than the for sale stuff, I don't read much over there.
  8. This coming from a well respected audio supplier trying to sell me something. More likely this.

I'm looking forward to reviews. Looks like you have approached this with a great deal of thought. I used to work in industrial support for lens and camera production. So manufacturing process details are of interest. I might have to start saving up my $$$.

I'm ready for an honest test and complete disassembling of them. Some small part of me hopes that a new headphone that doesn't cost $2000 can sound decent. But, reality is a bitch.

I see these over in the other place. $500 Stat, based on pro bias. New offering from India. It said in the thread Spritzer will be getting a set. True, lies, or Trumpism?
  12. Any bets on how long it takes for that video to show up in the internet?
  13. I assume you've received this and have had a chance to listen?
  14. How's your soldering skills? You might want to grab some junk circuit board to practice on. Other than that, the recap job is pretty simple.
  15. Drop $1200 and you can have an official stax mafia product! https://mjolnir-audio.com/products/
  16. $400-500 US is pretty typical of late for a SRM1 MKII. Getting back to the hum issue, have you tried borrowing a different source? Those old multidisc cd players are getting up there in age.
  17. The network of stax dealers in the U.S. collapsed. The distributor (Yama's) was always a PITA. There's a couple of online dealer's, but most of the brick and mortar dealers bailed. They really need to make an effort to get this going again. The Dallas dealer always was well stocked and had demo headphones out all the time. They currently have one of the best headphone demo areas I've seen in the US. They have Senns, Grados, PSBs, and others out with a decent amp and source. It sold quite a few Stax systems there and I'm sure they could again .You'd think the new management would be all about making this happen.
  18. I think a mental health check is in order. Licking the doorbell is a bit over the top by anyone's standards. Next up, fondling garbage?
  19. The guy looks like he's about to knock-off a liquor store.
  20. If you can find a millett minimax for sale, that would be a good bang for the buck.
  21. Am I to assume that Yama's is out of the Stax business? Not that they did much when they were.
  22. The source seems to be in Japan, so there's some mom and pop corner retailer that had them sitting on the shelf. Modern distribution is not the norm in Japan. They seem to be stuck in the 1950's.
  23. two pairs for sale, no measurements. They did carry on at length that they were original and not knock offs. Just peeled up one side of the pad. They look to be correct. The lips fold under and adhere to the headphone, forming a pocket for the foam? Mine is long gone, but that looks to be its purpose. This is the 1st sets of sr80 new pads I've ever seen. I guess I should drop the $40. This ain't happening again anytime soon.
