Ungh. Hasn't this already been done with those stupid magical stones? MUSICDIRECT - SHAKTI - ELECTROMAGNETIC STABILIZER STONE

3) MarkL "reviews" them and calls them rubbish without his $2000 mod, which consists of changing the ear cups to "RFI impervious" balsa wood and super-gluing a pair of gold-plated rabbit ear TV antennas to the phones.

Is there a step-by-step guide for removing the O2 pads? My MKI's came with a set of spare pads that I'd like to try..

In terms of similarities, I think they are comparable in soundstage, macro detail, bass, and in that both have a 'warmer' sound. However, the Ayre has a much blacker background (this could be the async USB implementation), and as a result much more resolving power and micro detail. Cliche, but I keep hearing subtle things that I've never picked up in my records before, like guitar string reverberations. At the same time, it also has a much better sense of timing, and a much more natural presentation that sounds far less "digital" than the PWD (sorry, more cliched audiophile jargon, but I feel it's the best way to describe it). Finally, it also betters the PWD in terms of tonality - I felt there was something a bit off in this regard with the PWD, making some things sound unnatural. Overall, while I thought the PWD was a decent upgrade from the ECD1 in most respects, my biggest problem with it was that it seemed to be missing a certain sense of fun and involvement that the ECD1 had. The QB-9, on the other hand, is engaging and enjoyable, while sonically improving on the ECD1 in every aspect (no mid-range bloom either). FWIW, I was using the PWD through its Coax input using my M2Tech Hiface. Perhaps the network bridge will improve on its sound, whenever it arrives.

Got one of these puppies today. Initial impressions: well, let's just say that I'm having a difficult time taking the headphones off

The KGSS was a pretty nice step up from the SRM-007t for me (w/ the SR-007's). The added frequency extension and impact certainly provides a nice helping of PRaT and makes these cans more engaging. I certainly wouldn't mind a BHSE but don't feel like dropping that kind of cash until I can spend an equivalent amount on a DAC
-
Got one of these coming in. Will be interesting to compare with the ECD-1.

Heh. Buggy chips are pretty commonplace, but it's rare to hear of silicon that just dies outright. Is this because of overheating, or something else entirely?

Good to see more cheap async USB SPDIF converters coming out. $900 for a wavelink is just nutso. FWIW, I'm very happy with my HiFace.
-
I can always use more bases, thus the JH16 interests me. However, I'm already happy with my IEMs (UM3X), and I therefore may be better off spending the cash on a new DAC or upgrading the car. Decisions, decisions..

I hate USPS and their slow-ass customs processing. 8 hours from Toronto, and it will take them more than a week to deliver a friggin transformer so I can finally fire up the KGSS =(
-
Got one of these USB->SPDIF converters in this past week. In short, quite a big improvement over my old Trends UD10.1; everything sounds like a layer of fuzz was removed from the signal, resulting in a more relaxed and focused sound. $150 for an asynch USB converter that does 192KHz? I'm sold. Good job Italians. I was actually considering the Wavelink, but not anymore. Also, any lust for the QB-9 has faded dramatically I recommend this highly to anyone who has a PC as their primary source.

I must say, I'm tremendously enjoying the SR-007's. They are by far the best sounding and most enjoyable phones I've yet to own. The HD800's were nice, but I felt they were too sterile and analytical, as well as sibilant at times, which killed any enjoyment from long-term listening. I have no regrets selling them. The SR-007's on the other hand, are warmer and far more engaging. Although they may be missing a little of the treble and lower-bass (<60hz), the existing frequency spectrum ,particularly the midrange, is reproduced so naturally and effortlessly that it sucks me into the music like no other. Now I just need more time in the day to go through my entire music collection If a new amplifier truly improves these like everyone says, then musical Valhalla must be within reach. I was skeptical of electrostats for a long time, but oh what a converted heathen I have become.

OMGZ. Wow. Thanks - that did the trick. Noob = me. Phew, and I thought my new purchase was already borked.

I got my SR-007/SRM-007t in today. Sounds great..but it appears that I have a channel imbalance issue. The right channel is noticably quieter than the left. This sucks. I've tried out swapping out diff tubes and using different inputs, but I really don't know if its the amp or headphones. Anything else I can try that is worthwhile? I R Sad Panda.

Yes, I hear he give good deal in exchange for 40000 tampon, no applicator.
-
Thanks. Hey, I like the midrange, its nice and warm and comfy What should I be looking at for a decent upgrade? I don't really feel like blowing more than $2k for an amp.
-
Used, on the 'gon. AudiogoN ForSale: STAX SR-007 I paid a good bit lower than his asking price. I don't know if it was a *great* deal (what do 007t's go for nowadays?), but I figured with all the stuff that he included, it still wasn't bad.
-
Soooo...I just sold my HD800's and bought an OII MK1/007t combo. Will be my first electrostats ever. I excite.
-
Damnit, this really makes me want to sell my HD800 and DX1000 and get some O2's. While I do enjoy the HD800's immensely in short bursts, I'm still finding their 6KHz peak fatiguing after about an hour of listening at moderate volumes, something which is ultimately frustrating considering how smooth and non-fatiguing the HD650's were, and ends up killing my listening enjoyment. I doubt that another source or amp upgrade will alleviate this, at it seems to be tied into the phones themselves. Anyone have any impressions of the APS V3 cable for the HD800, specifically whether it helps "smooth over" this 6k peak?

Munich - check out the Schneider Weiss brewery/restaurant. Pretty solid Bavarian food and quality hefeweizen, decent prices. Amsterdam - pretty much any decent Indonesian place. We ate at Aneka Rasa, close to the northern edge of the red light district on Warrmoestrasse (sp?), it was amazing.

Thanks, I figured as much. Maybe I'll start on a B22 build instead =0

Hallo Thar, I was just wondering whether you guys think it would be worth it to build a Sigma 11 PSU for my M3 (currently I have teh steps). I know that the Sig11 can supply more current and has tighter regulation, but would it make an audible difference?
-
/me wants. I realize its a manner of diminishing returns of course, but I do wonder if its twice as good as something like an Ayre QB-9. Plus, $699 for the Lynx AES card =(
