June 19, 200917 yr I'm leaving tonight for a one month trip in Europe with a friend, we'll be making these cities: - Paris - Strasbourg - Munich - Prague - Berlin - Dresden - Amsterdam - Brussels - Bruges Any tips for good obscure places to eat or drink on the cheap? Or just nice places to visit that are not in tourist books? Thanks!
June 19, 200917 yr Author No Dublin or Cork? Weak man \ We wanted to, but we had to make some hard choices to fit our time frame. Brussels will be our drinking place instead.
June 19, 200917 yr Amsterdam: Eetcafe Het Molenpad, Prinsengracht 653. Nice little brown cafe that was my local when I lived around the corner. Good beer, good food and I got off with the barmaids on a couple of nights. Your mileage may vary there. A bit more upscale -- Restaurant d'Theeboom, Singel 210. Haven't been back in a decade, so these are hardly current recommendations. But I figure the fact they're both still there is a good sign. Munich: Skip the Hofbr
June 19, 200917 yr Jesus, are you going to even have time to stand still long enough to eat or drink?
June 19, 200917 yr Author I hope so. Two meals a day and 5-6 hours of sleep should be more than enough.
June 19, 200917 yr The Rough Guide series has worked for us in the past Europe on a budget :: Rough Guides Shop Better yet, fellow travelers. If you can talk to people who have say, just finished a week in a destination, or just come from a destination, pick their brains on what worked/didn't work. Enjoy yourself. Should be plenty to experience.
June 21, 200917 yr I shall ask my dad what place in Bruges he and those with him went to where half of them ended up with food poisoning so that you might avoid it.

June 28, 200917 yr Ask and ye shall receive: Flickr: gp_hebert's Photostream Awesome! Pics are beautiful; just as I remembered. How did you like it?
June 28, 200916 yr Great pictures! One of my bigger regrets when I lived in France (for 20 months in the mid-80's) was not getting out to the Alsace region. These pictures remind me that I still need to do that.
June 28, 200916 yr When you are in Munich check out Kloster Andechs monastery and brewery. Excellent scenery, great food, excellent beers, especially the doppelbach and hefeweizen. Easy to get to via the S-bahn. Just head south on the S-5 toward Hersching and the Amersee. Edited June 28, 200916 yr by morphsci
June 28, 200916 yr Munich - check out the Schneider Weiss brewery/restaurant. Pretty solid Bavarian food and quality hefeweizen, decent prices. Amsterdam - pretty much any decent Indonesian place. We ate at Aneka Rasa, close to the northern edge of the red light district on Warrmoestrasse (sp?), it was amazing.
July 15, 200916 yr Just saw your new pics. Very interesting. Amicalement _________________ PS Just looking at the blue version of this Prague's Rambo, I think you were unaware, at that time, that he knew about our diplomatic growing tension... Visa restrictions 'unfriendly': Czech consul general
July 22, 200916 yr Author Awesome! Pics are beautiful; just as I remembered. How did you like it? I enjoyed a lot the part of my trip in Alsace. People there are very friendly, unlike Paris, and they just like talking about wine and food. We went in one winemaker's cave (Jean Rapp) and got to taste pretty much all of the alsacian grape varieties and I brought a Riesling back home. It was pretty hard cycling through the valleys with a one-speed bicycle, but it was totally worth it if only for the superb landscapes.
