  1. ^ Pretty useless "review" given that he didn't compare them to any other headphones. Unless you consider this kind of thing helpful: "Note that the PS-500 is also an “open-air” or “open-back” headphone, which has advantages over the “closed” variety in various aspects of sound quality." Oh? Do tell. "On the other hand, some of the sound can be heard by persons sitting nearby depending on the volume level and how quiet the setting is." Gee, thanks...
  2. You would simply need to listen to them yourself and then make your own, informed, decision. Isn't that always the answer?
  3. New driver's license pic versus old. 5 years, 50 pounds, and a new haircut... This was the best they could do with their shitty camera. For frame of reference, the shirt I have on in the new pic is bright cherry red, and the glasses are bright gold, so it's obviously very shadowy. My hair and beard are actually quite white at this point. I'll have to get some decent pics taken in outdoor light and post them here.
  4. You didn't notice the black panties and pussy?
  5. Grado is a small family-run business based out of Brooklyn. I'm surprised that they even bothered to answer you. They don't really have time for that. What they really meant to say was, "Ahh, fugget about it! If you don't like it, then just go away!"
  6. Nor a fuck. Not one fucking shit, you fuck!
  7. Applied to 1 school for undergrad, got in, then stayed there for my masters (didn't apply anywhere else for that either), then applied to 3 schools for my Ph.D. work and got accepted at all 3 (Kansas, Nebraska and Mississippi). Went to Kansas because they were the first to offer a grad assistantship and had by far the best basketball program. Should have gone to either of the others because they were both actually interested in working with their doctoral students to help them move along in the program and finish. Left Kansas after 2 years with an MBA as a door prize, and left the door open in terms of one day returning, but then never did. Applied to 1 law school, got in, then applied to one LLM program and got in. The only school to ever turn me down for anything was North Carolina (also a great basketball school). I applied to transfer there after one year of law school. I was in the top 5% of my class after the first year, but they didn't accept a single transfer student that year, and said as much in their rejection letter which I still have somewhere. Of course, all of this was a long time ago, but I think the key is to decide where you want to go relative to where you're likely to get accepted and can afford. Coming out of high school, I didn't have the greatest grades, so I went to the community college first and then to Illinois State to finish my undergrad. Preferred U of I but figured my odds of getting accepted were nearly nil, because they just don't accept anyone but the cream of the crop coming out of high school, and almost never accept any Juco transfer students. Maybe it's just a different strategy, but I've never quite understood why everyone wants to go to the "best of the best" schools only to waste a lot of time and money on applications and then get piles of rejection letters, or worse yet, get accepted and then get thrown into an uncomfortable environment where you're at the bottom of the barrel from day one. Of course, in accounting and law, you have the CPA exam and the bar exam as neutralizers, whereas in other fields your degree and grades are all you'll ever have to show for yourself.
  8. He's already put out an album and has his own YouTube page: http://www.youtube.c.../23/6VS9ZIcxB7k Here he is several years ago: http://www.youtube.com/user/BMacFarlaneMusic#p/u/14/-Ohq0xHT10w
  9. Maybe some of the "undocumented workers" could be asked to pay a bit of tax on the income they earn while illegally in the US, and while we're at it, perhaps they should be granted some jail time rather than asylum.
  10. Ok, then why don't we start with the 47% of adult Americans who don't pay any taxes at all...
  11. Seems that the LCD-3 is now following the typical pattern. "It's frigging amazing, up there with the best of the best..." "Ya, no kidding. It's crazy good!" "X3" "Heard it and was quite impressed, but would need to hear more..." "I can see why others would really like it, and I agree that it's technically excellent, just not sure it fits with my tastes..." "It was merely "meh"..." "Really??!??! You're got to be shitting me... the (name your new high end headphone product) equals or bests all others except (name your favorite 2 or 3 others)..." ... Happened with the O2 (way back when), HD800, T2, LCD-2, and countless others. This is to be expected, and I suspect that the 009 will be next; even though the clear majority will still think it's amazing, it's just impossible for any one product to fully satisfy all listening tastes and sonic preferences.
  12. I'm trying to imagine Larry singing the chorus of this song to the Cavalli... That's probably fair. We're just having a little fun. Don't take it personal. That's what we do here. By the way, I find all of the LCD-3 love to be quite encouraging. Can't wait to hear them myself.
  13. Same guy is over at Head-Fi giving advice...
  14. Not terribly good options, Shelly, but I agree with your logic in terms of having the issue fully addressed such that it won't be a lingering problem fo you. Sucks about the timing, but I hope you'll pursue this option eventually, even if not right away. This coming from someone who has been living with bad knees for several years now.
  15. Happy birthday, Carl, my fellow white bearded friend. Glad you had a great day with Bonnie.
  16. Happy birthday to you, Mr. Davis, sir!
  17. Hears loud sucking sound emanating from somewhere near his wallet. Mutters, "Damn LCD-3 and Stax 009" to himself. Carries on, waiting for the next bit of exciting news from the headphone world. Reflects on Joseph Shumpeter's "creative destructionism" theory and wonders if he'll ever be able to truly enjoy his LCD-2 and Stax 007 again. But then flashes a quick smile, taking solace in the fact that he can still manage to enjoy his old hula hoop and his collection of Grados from time to time. Decides that anything is possible so long as he doesn't think too much about it, and just allows himself to get lost in the moment of the music. Yes, he still has his hula hoop, somewhere in his mom's attic probably. He's that old, and that sentimental.
  18. Sounds like you had a good pre-birthday party in Denver. Hope you had a chance to stay an extra day or two to get in a couple of 14'ers!
  19. You're not supposed to be jerking off when you're listening to headphones at meets. What you do at home is your own business...
  20. Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!
  21. Happy birthday, VIcki! You're 'good people' as they say, among the best of the best! Hope you get to do something fun and/or relaxing.
  22. That made me laugh for some reason! Kind of like when you need to send a steak back because it was overcooked. "I'm sorry Big Guy Up In Sky, but I just wasn't happy with this birthday. No, no, nothing in particular. I just want a 'do over'... can I take a mulligan?" To which the BGUIS replies, "Ok, Al. I hear ya. Let's say next Tuesday. Does that work for you? Let's just reschedule it... and the dessert's on me this time." Anyway, happy belated, Al.
  23. Ah, no need, man. This does, however, reflect well on you. You're anything but inconsiderate. (I sort of feel the same way for not responding with respect to Larry's ongoing struggles. It's hard to understand why some people have to continually battle serious health issues while others seem to have all of the luck in that department. Such a random existence, when you really think about it. Anyway, good thoughts your way, Larry.) Last night on campus, things were kind of weird. Everyone seemed to be "off" of their usual games. Some of the girls were taking it pretty rough. One got up in the middle of class to go outside to cry, and another one ran behind her to comfort her. That kind of thing. We all sat around and talked about him, but not in the story telling sense. People were just wondering what had happened, and why him, why now. I learned today from a direct conversation with one of the police officers who responded to the initial call that there were absolutely no signs of foul play, nor was there any evidence or even the slightest suggestion that his death was self inflicted. It's now just a matter of seeing what the autopsy says, and in the meantime everyone is doing what they can to cull the rumors the he hung himself and that type of nonsense that goes around so quickly in a small community like this. Thanks, everyone, for your condolences and well wishes. It's something that will stay with me for a while because he was such a likable guy who wouldn't hurt a fly even if you paid him to. We're trying to organize a memorial service for him on campus, but will wait until his funeral services have been arranged, such that our little deal will not occur until after his burial, and his family can see for themselves how much he meant to the students as well as the rest of us who were touched by his gentle soul. As I've said to myself many times these past couple of days, "Fuck!" (as I shake my head in disbelief). But life keeps marching on, as it must. It's funny, because it makes you assess your own existence and think about ways in which it might be possible to slow down here and there and smell the roses, so to speak.
