  1. I'm half way through the Band of Brothers series on bluray, which I've had for some time now and finally got around to watching. Quite good and highly recommended.
  2. Ehh, don't remember that. Sorry if I called you a jerk and you're not, in reality, a jerk. I must have been looking for like company. As for the DT-48's, Matt (NightWoundsTime) can confirm that I broke my pair before I had listened to them for 10 seconds. They're not as indestructible as people claim they are! I tried them on at a meet (somewhere, can't remember where, probably Tampa) and they squeezed my head so badly that I figured, "Hmmm, maybe if I stretch them out a bit." But they seemed to bounce right back no matter what I did, until I stretched them with a wee bit too much force and snapped the indestructible headband in two. So I never did listen to them. I've still got them, and was hoping that maybe one day I'd run across a headband solution that works. Beyer doesn't have any of the originals as best I can tell from the limited amount of research I did, but even if they did, the clamping force would be way too tight for my comfort. In any case, I eventually found another pair at another meet and gave them a quick listen. They're really nowhere near as bad as the T50P.
  3. Nowhere near as bad as the T50P. Not even in the same league of badness. At least there are some positive things to say about the DT48's. They're uhhhhh, fast and detailed, I guess, in a painful kind of way.

Just ordered the Complete Series box set. Looking forward to it. Can't imagine any TV series being better than the Little Rascals though... j/k.
  5. Wow. I guess you'll just have to hear them for yourself one day, just like anything. But I can't imagine break in doing much for them.
  6. You're regular riot, Alice!
  7. Ah!!! Ha!!! Forgot about you moving to Tallahassee. I'll get that address one way or another and come stalk you!
  8. Happy birthday, Younger! I'll have to take you out for many beers when I get back to Tampa.
  9. I get all sorts of emails, most of which are rather senseless, but I found this one interesting. Ever seen a train lay its own track?

Anyone know what the approximate wait time is for a pair of LCD-2 once you add your name to the list? Last I knew, it was about one month. Is that still the case? I've been on the list for about a week and have another 5 weeks before I need to head back to Cayman.
  13. Drove the rig from Butte, MT down to Idaho Falls on I-15 today. What a beautiful drive. Heading off to a dinner invitation with some friends at their house. Jackknifed the dang motorhome and trailer a couple of weeks ago, so I'll be taking it in to the truck repair place in the morning to get an initial assessment of the wallet damage. I'm guessing $2-3k-ish. Dumb me, tried to do a 3 point turn by backing the trailer onto a country road when I got lost in South Dakota instead of just going down the road until I could find a proper place to turn around.

I guess some of this is true. There is a certain break in period required for new members. What I like about this site is that nobody seems to be pimping any particular products. Sure, some people like certain things a lot, and they make their case, but it's not a chest pounding sort of thing. It's just their opinion backed by their personal experiences, and with nothing to 'sell' as such (be it the product, or their 'expertise' or whatever). In other words, there are no ulterior motives (shilling) and not much of a need by anyone here for ego stroking because we all know who each other are to begin with. That's what makes real conversations possible. So when someone new comes along and says, "I don't like this site so much because of X, Y or Z," they shouldn't be too surprised when "Oh, sorry to hear that. Then why don't you go fuck yourself?" is the response, because that kind of thing is just adding noise to an otherwise peaceful and happy environment. That, and if someone is looking for "information" (as such), then they just need to look for it. Read, read, read, as Yikes said.
  15. HD650 recabled (preferably balanced) and with a good amp are worthy. The Denons always seem to leave me a little flat, but I've just got a stock pair.
  16. Hey, I think I know that place. Slow bastards, but tasty dogs!
  17. John, I don't have any direct experience with either, but found this discussion interesting: <meta name="description" content="Klipsch audio systems provide the true audio/video lover a wide variety of high performance loudspeakers and loudspeaker systems for music and home theater entertainment centers, including iPod speakers, multimedia s It seems that the main concern with the 19s is the bass response (or lack thereof) below 40 or so.
  18. I want to meet your Aunt Judy, the pie lady. I've got an Aunt Judy. She's a CPA, not so exciting.

Ya, I had scrambled eggs and thick cut bacon again this morning. How about you?

  21. Not to mention the $1,500-ish vinyl order I've been working on all week, and that's with goodguy pricing wherever applicable. About 50 audiophile pressings, mostly classic rock, and another 30 or so standard pressings (but all new and unopened). I'm listening to the Tom Petty 7 album live set now and it sounds amazing. It's a compilation from over the years, so it picks up all of the good stuff and leaves out the crap usually associated with live albums. I need to leave here before I go completely broke. It's like be a kid in a nose candy store.
  22. I'm still in Three Forks, MT. Went out for a long drive in the Atom yesterday (426 miles) down to Yellowstone and then back across the Beartooth Highway. Kind of fun climbing those "hills" at about 105mph then braking hard to get around 20mph hairpins, then getting right back on it. I've got a terrible farmer's tan today to prove it. Three Forks is an amazing place. You can jump in your pickup truck, head into town for lunch, circle back the "long way" stopping at the gas station for a 6 pack (of Diet Coke of course) and end up back at Todd's Junkieland and the pickup still hasn't even thought about clicking off a mile on the odometer. I should visit more places like this.
  23. My thoughts exactly...

Went to see Jackson Browne (with David Lindley) last night in Bozeman, MT. Todd opted not to come along, thinking we would get crappy seats at the last minute, and since it's a basketball arena it would sound like crap (his experience recently from the rafters at a CSN concert). But dang! I was lucky. Got a seat just 4 rows behind the sound engineering tables and exactly dead center (right at the half court line). I don't think I could have hand selected a better seat. Lindley was a surprise, but I guess mostly because I didn't know about his artistry in advance. He plays all sorts of string instruments and with considerable skill. A bit of an odd duck, but it was nice to see him perform. He and Jackson did 4 or 5 songs together to start, and then Lindley did a couple of solo pieces before the (rather early) break. Jackson returned with his band and played most of his standard stuff, and eventually invited Lindley back on. The post-break part of the show lasted much longer and offered a lot more variety. One thing about Jackson is that the man can still sing (unlike many of his old foggie peers these days). He's not the most energetic and exciting performer in the world, but he seems at peace with himself and puts his audience at ease with the singer/songwriter stuff that they come for, while saving a few not-so-surprising rock surprises for the end of the show. I'd give it a solid 8/10, and probably a 9/10 were it in a venue offering better acoustics.

I sometimes miss civilization, both when I'm in Cayman and when I'm on the road in the summer, so have been thinking about subscribing to either the NY Times or Chicago Tribune, which is what got me to thinking about the DX.
