  1. Ok...last weekend I celebrated my unemployment by co-hosting a beer tasting at my buddy Joe's house...the theme was beers that were perhaps past their prime:)...stuff that, for whatever reason, no one ever got around to drinking... We started with the Rockmill Brewery (near Columbus/Lancaster, Ohio) Tripel...didn't fit our theme, but it was cold & piqued our interest when we saw it in Joe's fridge...this was an all-around winner...I'm going to try to find more from them...we've all had our share of Tripels & this was solid... Dogfish Head Wrath of Pecant...made with carabs & plantains...for a while, this was only available in Reheboth & was not allowed to leave the brewery...I got this from the main guy at World Class Beverage...it should've been cracked long ago, but was perfectly suited for the event...strange character to it that I can't say really clicked, but possibly the best smelling beer I've ever had:)...wow...look for carab & plantain candles to be the next big thing... Pierre Celis Signature Selection Grotten Brown...found this at an often overlooked local store...they don't have that great of a selection & it looked like they had forgotten about this in the back & just put it out recently...they haven't brewed this in years & Pierre Celis passed away recently...it wasn't stupendous, but it didn't seem off in any way to me...not sure what the others thought of it...I think they were underwhelmed & just wanted to get to some of the other stuff... Cigar City 110K=OT Batch #3...a beer named after a troll on a beer forum:)...they do a different version of this each year...this one I should've drank right away but didn't...a kindly HC'er also got me some Batch #4 so it was time for this to go:)...my honest impression is that it was just too convoluted...so many things going on that the beer just didn't work...& it wasn't like there were many layers, it was like a mishmosh of flavors...strangely, I think we all still enjoyed it...but we all shared an inquisitive look while finishing it... Jackie O's Oil of Aphrodite...another from Joe's fridge mixed into the old...I'e enjoyed everything I've had from Jackie O's...one of my favorite breweries...it was nice of Joe to share it & even nicer of him to give me a bottle for introducing him to the brewery...I wasn't able to attend their last bottle release... I'm realizing now that I have zero pictures of the star of the show, the FFF Fantabulous Resplendence X...damn...well it's a strong ale they put out four or five years ago for their anniversary...it held up really well...obviously, it lost some of its hops...I've got two more bottles, I'll try to manage a pic... Stone 03.03.03 & 04.04.04...ya...I know how much these are worth, but these two were separated from the group & didn't make it to the cellar...they'd been boxed up for a trade I arranged long ago & then forgot about...they were in that box over the summer so I wasn't sure what they might've been through...turns out they were fine (more than fine!), but I didn't want to trade them to someone & have it come back on me...IIRC, three of us preferred the 04.04.04 & one the 03.03.03... Alesmith Yulesmith (Summer)...a seasonal from a few seasons ago:)...let that one go for toooo long... French Broad Wee-Heavy-Er...um...probably one of the worst Wee Heavies I've ever had...unsure of where Joe got this one so perhaps it was, indeed, past its prime... Smuttynose Maibock from their Big Beer Series...great series, great beer...one of the best of the style...drink Smuttynose... a Southern Tier Un*Earthly made before they used the fluorescent green paint...wow...guess how that was...eek... the same friend who brought the ST brought a waxed Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree...I don't know when they stopped waxing them, but I'd never seen a waxed one before... we got into some other stuff, but it's a little hazy after this:)...it was basically four guys interested in beer & then four people that were just there heh...one of Joe's neighbors came over w/a Coors Light in his hand...& I think the only two girls there were pouring out some of the beers we poured...
  2. I'd love to attend qually & get there early/stay late for the two other races usually held... but I just don't know what my schedule looks like yet...
  3. comparing the “normal” Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (left) to one made in an Aeropress (right)...Gonna go with the one on the right... I should probably be using a mug for both coffees, but I think that's one of the contributing factors behind me getting the 2nd coffee free:)... maybe this will finally give me the energy to post my weekend exploits...
  4. Sea Bass just saved my week one...63 yards...
  5. Ok....thanks... now counting on Oakland to kick a bunch of field goals...close one:)...
  6. I have Felix Jones...he ended the game with 12 fantasy points...I wake up this morning & he's down to 10...what gives?...
  7. Marques Colston's out for at least 4 weeks w/a broken collarbone...
  8. another New Belgium Lips of Faith Kick...I know what I said...but I just keep finding myself buying it...especially at $6.49 - my 10% discount... 2011 Sierra Nevada Bigfoot...not as mellow as the 2001 that I had on tap (!!!) not too long ago, but interesting enough to make me want to age some of it... finishing that Sun King Oktoberfest 4-pack... excited about tomorrow...one of my friends & I are having a tasting in the afternoon...he's going to have a couple beers on tap in his garage & I'm bringing quite a few bottles...we didn't make it public 'til today, so we've no idea who's attending... has anyone had this new Laphroaig Triple Wood yet??...thinking about buying a bottle...
  9. Julienne fries?...
  10. sexy kit...
  11. looks like it...ya...
  12. shitty, shitty day so I'll be brief... I did LOF Kick & La Folie back to back & it didn't feel like La Folie was dissolving my taste buds this time...but I still don't pick up anything interesting in it...not to say it isn't good, and not to say every good beer has to be complex, but it was kind of boring & at points was a chore to drink...one of my friends says it used to be better...maybe I'll try to source an older vintage...this as '10... Kick is wearing on me a bit...I still say drink it...but don't stock up on it for the season & expect to love it every time...a unique seasonal--a citrus wallop...get some... Guinness Black Lager...a new Guinness?...had to try it...now I've tried it...it's dreadful... Sun King Oktoberfest...great when fresh...really diggin' it...but $16 for a 4-pack of 16oz cans?...no thanks...looks like they're using the same can for all their special seasonals & just slappin' different stickers on there...no reason for it to be that expensive less than a mile from the brewery... Sierra Nevada Ovila Saison (not Ovila Dubbel)...another in the series of collabs with The Abbey of New Clairvaux...nothing amazing, but, like the Dubbel, solid, not that expensive, presents well...recommended... more this weekend...
  13. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/08/manning-undergoes-cervical-fusion-surgery-out-2-3-months/ Peyton had the 2nd neck surgery earlier today...
  14. a fifth 2TB drive so that I can replace the five 1.5TB drives in my NAS....I have it connected to my OPPO which is connected to my Kuro which is connected to the pleasure center in my brain...
  15. so, Vicki....who are you going to drop to pick up Sanchez?...
  16. Colts made it official...no Manning week one...
  17. Indy offered everything they could, even adding a chicane last minute...it was entirely michelin's fault...they knew ahead of time about Indy's diamond ground track & they chose not to do the proper testing... I wasn't fond of the track that was designed (I still think it needs elevation changes), but the whole disastrous six cars racing had nothing to do with Indy...I was at the race... also, the Hulman-George family ain't hurting for money lol...it wasn't so much a financial issue as much as it was bernie trying to dick tony george around & tony not being in the position in which he needed to take any shit...the 500 & Brickyard both draw more people & money than any f1 race...they simply replaced it w/a motorcycle race... I'm still an f1 fan, obviously...but I think it's safe to say after watching what happened with Korea, Silverstone, Bahrain etc etc that bernie isn't comfortable unless he's callin' all the shots...

  23. do they still have Lord Admiral Nelson on tap &/or in bombers?...none of it's made it to Indy...this is of great concern to me....
  24. ^^niiice...99° here...hoping to find something decent after work...
  25. I'm the odd man out that likes Le Terroir more than La Folie...LF was just too sour for me to pick up notes I like to look(taste) for... also, LF is ~$18 here whereas most of the others are ~$8... I will revisit it soon, though...it sounds stupid...well, I sound stupid BUT my tongue seems to cope with extreme sours better after my tongue's been sore & regenerated the taste buds... & now, thanks to google, I know that it's called innervation: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/197930.html anywho...I'll pick up a bottle:)...
