Eeeeeee.

Oh no you don't! Not for low-impedance cans!

Do you know what a headphone would sound like if the impedances don't match up? (Output impedance too high for the low impedance cans?) I want to see if it's the effect I'm hearing.

Heh, I just realized my PPX3 SLAM blows with low impedance cans. Should this be expected?

There is no such thing as overkill for headphones.

Oh just wondering, do you know of any DIY designs (preferably cheap) that use a 6SN7 tube (yeah yeah, I know it's lame, but I have a few of these tubes lying around) as the driver tube?

I've got to say though, Esoteric sure knows visual design.

Ah ha. And so they are.

Nice photos Peter. I've wondered though. What are those gear-looking like thingies? Don't tell me they're heat sinks...

No way. Proprietary inputs? Crap... Don't quite understand why. Okay, nevermind. They just want more of your money.

Now I've got a new project over the summer. Thanks Aerius. (I've seen your photo of your amp before. I've always wondered what it was. )

$500 to $700.

I'm looking to build a DIY tube amplifier (for low impedance cans) for about $500 (excluding enclosure and tubes) that can match or beat the performance of my PPX3 SLAM 6SN7. Any ideas?

Perhaps it's time to call again. I'm actually baffled that you don't call him every single day.

I've been spoiled...
Ah ha, I see. Thanks! Hmmm, gahh... I need money. I want that PS-1. Or perhaps HP-2. Sell it all for the Grados?
-
I've been spoiled...
Madness I tell you. What are differences between the HP1000 and HP2 btw? I read the long vintage Grado thread last year, but it wasn't too clear.

Rofl. Arghhhh. A PS-1 is up for sale. >$2100 though. Damn, that seems a little bit above the $1.8-2.0k I was expecting. Not that I can afford them anyways. So the HPs aren't worth it if the recording sucks? Most of my recordings are total crap though. That might be a problem...

I've been spoiled...
I just realized I currently have not one can whatsoever that is not in boxed up! Not even cheap earbuds or crappy headphones. Wow, am I good. No source either. No DAC, DAP, nor disc player. After everything that is currently in boxes sells and ships out, it's time to redo everything. Oh boy, this is going to be rough....

I've been spoiled...
Yeah, I've got to say that I almost had a heart attack listening to female vocals (pop, rock, jazz, whatever). Sooo smooth and engaging up top with so much PRaT in the bass. So beautiful. I love it.

I've been spoiled...
Ah, yes yes. I read a number of articles regarding that; I had forgotten the term for it. *slaps self* Thanks so much for the help. Ahhh, so many headphones I want to buy... I should perhaps sell everything and hunt down a PS-1. Oh shit... probably not a good idea.
