  1. Ok if it's showing up as one 640gig drive then you setup a RAID0 array. Be aware that this is designed for increased speed but comes with some serious drawbacks. If either drive dies you lose everything on both. Have you tried getting the latest promise drivers?
  2. Ah yep I kind assumed you had installed the drivers for that already . Glad you got it figured out and remember while raid can be a savior at times its not a replacement for doing backups.
  3. Did you ever format the drives and did you actually want to set them up in a raid array? If the RAID array is initialized correctly you should only see one logical drive and you'd be able to partition and format it.
  4. By raid utility are you referring to the raid bios/setup? Or some windows based utility? Oh and which raid are you using I believe that board has intel raid and promise raid on it.

So I've been thinking about getting a cat for a few months now and I've started narrowing down the breeds I'm interested in. Here's the short list so far: British Shorthair Scottish Flop Siberian Any other suggestions from fellow head-case cat owners?
  12. Can't hurt to try the 40gig version is only $400 and it really doesn't look that out of place in a HT environment
  13. I still think it's probably the best blu-ray player around. It has the benefit of having way more processing power than needed and a steady stream of updates if any bugs show up.
  14. We should start seeing $299 blu-ray players sometime later this year. Maybe even $199 by the end of the year.
  15. Ok this one just might seal the hd-dvd coffin for good
  16. or just search for "m3"
  17. The current SSD drives have fairly good transfer rates but where they really whip tradtional HD's is in I/O they can do many many more simultaneous disk read/writes than a traditional HD could ever hope to do. That said theey still cost an absolute fortune for the available sizes. Getting a nice solid 7200rpm traditional drive should be a nice improvement for you. I have the 200gig version of that Hitachi drive in my laptop and I highly recommend it.
  18. updated the first post with some general comparisons of the 840c vs the Opus 21 and the APL Philips.

  21. Interesting
  22. Very true, exhibit A: SACD1000 transport
  23. Yep thats my concern, while I like the whole idea of transformer coupled output it's hard for me to get past things like the $600 wooden knob that they sell.
  24. I have seen the RAM mods and they do look interesting (though quite expensive).
  25. The 840c doesn't smooth over anything, it's really good with transients, especially that initial attack. On drums for instance the initial hit just jumps out and smacks you. I'm still a little unsure of the decay though, at times I get the feeling it's not always holding onto notes as long as it should. I also get a feeling that output stage is holding back the player from being as good as it could be. I wonder how good it'd sound with a zapfilter or a transformer coupled output.
