  1. While I'm not typically a fan of single-driver speakers this caught my eye today. I've had really good experiences with Seas Excel series of drivers in the past so who knows this could actually be good.
  2. After selling off the majority of my headphone gear and becoming a speaker first guy I've settled on a pair of 650s and MS-2i's for those times that don't allow speaker listening. I like the MS-2i's for their upfront staging and punch and I like the 650's for their deeper bass and more expansive stage. I think they complement each other pretty well, though if forced to choose between the two I'd take the 650s. They are more well rounded and scale remarkably well.
  3. The SlimDevices documentation says that you can actually play what it's streaming on a computer by putting the following url in your playback program: http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 (replace localhost w/ IP address). Now I'm not sure if that means it'll only work for mp3 files?
  4. This page should get you all set: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/default.htm
  5. Could you tell me what router you have?
  6. You don't need any kind of DNS hosting, assuming you have cable/dsl I doubt your IP address changes often if at all. What you'll need to do is setup port forwarding in your router to forward the port that slimserver uses (it's port 9000 by default I think) to the machine that you have it running on. Then you can access it from anywhere by going to http://myipaddress:9000

    dusty getting owned
  8. If you read the thread it's bit more than that . 4 dacs per channel + new output stage and I guess maybe some power supply changes?
  9. Yeah thats a bit of a bummer but it's also probably why the cost is only $1200 for the mods.
  10. FYI looks like APL is now modding Transporters as well: http://aplhifi.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=688

As surprising as this might be to some I actually have to agree with Mike here .

Time to throw in my 2 cents I guess. I think Boomana was right to lock that thread, it was stupid, idiotic and was clearly done to get attention. Yes we put up with and allow a lot of crap here but starting a stupid thread like that just for the hell of it is really quite annoying. Do we have a set of rules written in stone about what is and isn't allowable? Of course we don't, we handle everything on pretty much a case by case basis. If something crosses the line or is just plain stupid it'll get locked. We do allow people to speak their mind about as freely as I think you'll find anywhere. However that doesn't give anyone the right to be an asshat and start shit just for the sake of it. I'm not sure why some of you think we have too many mods. We have a grand total of 5 plus myself and Reks as admins. Many of the new mods in fact replaced some of the originals who just aren't around anymore.
  14. Happy B-Day Jacob
  15. Thats one of the great things about the US we don't pay import duties. Though I would recommend that they send it Canada Post as UPS and Fedex can charge some random bullshit fees.
  16. It's not going to happen, it'd break about half the current mods that are installed and I don't have the time to edit the code to make them work.

I've had mostly good experiences (both buying and selling) but I've had a few negative ones as well. For example when I bought a Melos on audiogon a few years ago it wasn't packed very well and arrived damaged. The seller disappeared and I had to pay for repairs myself. The 2nd bad one is actually more funny than bad. I sold a PrimaLuna Prologue 1 and the buyer complained about me rating it as a 8/10 because it had some dust on it. He actually wanted a partial refund because of it.
  18. It really depends on what you want to do. I think the Oppo makes sense if you plan on getting an external dac (though of course you can only do dvd-a and sacd output via HDMI). Otherwise I think the Denon's (3910 or 3930) are your best bet. The 3930 ought to sound better since it's running two dacs in parallel.
  19. Well I've re-arranged all my gear since the arrival of the new tv stand so I think I'll give the Squeezebox a try since I'll be able to see its display relatively easily and can just use that interface.
  20. You could just get a cheap hdmi switcher like one of these
  21. Toshiba HD-A3 is available at many places for under $200 right now
  22. Mostly just resistance and heavenly sword though I do also own ninja gaiden sigma. It gets used most as a blu-ray player.
  23. here's some pics of the new tv stand:
  24. Let's see where to start. Beginning of year: GNSC Opus 21 & APL SACD1000 -> SP "The Dragon" -> L3000, K1000, HD650 or Quad 22L's driven by Rotel 1075 amp. Now: GNSC Opus 21 & APL SACD1000 & Cambridge Audio 840c -> Modwright SWL9.0 SE -> D-Sonic Magnum 500 -> Selah Audio 3D There's also been a reciever upgrade: Marantz SR-7001 -> Denon 4308ci Oh and at least one of those sources is going to be sold soon.
