  1. Yup, rich full sound is my memory of that DAC. Reminded me of the Electrocompaniet then and still does.

    B&W MM-1

I actually liked the headphones when I tried them, but only listened for about 30 seconds.
  3. It amazes me that these service menus don't have a default setting that you can return to.
  4. So 2.0 or 2.1 (5.1 isn't an option)? How would the Quad 12L Actives do for this?
  5. It's fun to read the videophiles on their enthusiast sites. Those guys are nuts with all their obsessiveness over the nth degree of this and that.
  6. Is anyone familiar with this "hacker collective"? [url=http://www.nycresistor.com/]NYC Resistor

    I'm asking about the speakers.
  8. Yeah, I have the stands made for them, so I'll give those another go, though I don't love them.

    Has anyone heard the B&Ws?
  10. I received the 9Ls today. Lanemart is a good vendor. Color is black, but it has sort of a pearly sparkle to it, which i suppose is meant to be "fun," but i dont like such types of fun. Fit n finish is very similar to the 12L but considerably smaller. That said, they are still big, much bigger than the Audioengine A2. I guess around the same size as the A5. I wish they were smaller. I ran them out of the PWD and holy mid-bass hump batman. They sounded very good when dialed in, but I need to play with them a bit and get the positioning right because they can get a little thumpy in the midbass, which I suppose isn't surprising given that they supposedly are voiced for desktop use, which always seems to mean midbass hump. I think removing the grills might help. They're ugly anyway.
  11. There appears to be something approaching a consensus on the Panny plasmas being the best or near best in class. Is there such consensus on a brand/model on the LCD side?
  12. $375 shipped, which I think is decent. They do have scuffs on the bottoms (which was disclosed) but otherwise perfect. Seller was lanemart on ebay. Good vendor familiar to many of us.
  13. I've been reading some complaints about noise from the Panny and Samsung plasmas. It appears to be much worse on the Samsungs. Can anyone comment?
  14. I never pulled the trigger on the soundbar, but I'm back in the market. Anyone have any further experience to report?
  15. I'll start pricing the panny today. Thanks gang. Tapatalk.
  16. Is the amp powerful enough? Tapatalk.
  17. I just impulsively bought 10 bags of crack.
  18. I just impulsively bought a pair of 9Ls from lanemart via ebay. Slightly scratched on the bottoms so the price looked pretty appealing. Will post impressions.
  19. Fair points. The size of the screen really does seem to give it more of that pane of glass effect. At 34", the picture is razor sharp, but still very flat if that makes sense.
  20. JH16 works great on the subway.
  21. Heh, that link makes me want to keep the CRT. They all seem to say that CRT is still better, except for size of course.
  22. Nice, Marc! Love that color combo. It sure is easy to load up on the accessories, isn't it? Packing cubes? Please let me know how you like it. Me last night: Quad 9L actives.
  23. Well, it looks like I am finally in the market for a new TV. Oddly, as obsessive as I am about most other gear, video stuff tends to just piss me off. I will be replacing my much loved, but absolutely hulking Sony WEGA KD-34XS955 34 inch CRT. Here are my needs and desires. I want picture quality and connectivity options. I need good viewing angles--I hate bad viewing angles. I want good performance for viewing sports. Needs to be watchable in a lit room--we do not have blackout shades so this is important. I don't need any widgets or any similar sort of flimflam--I don't intend to book my vacation on the thing. Our household primarily watches, in order of importance to ME: (a) sports; ( TV shows; © movies; and (d) children's programming. I can't get anything obscenely big, but I want something that will slightly terrify my wife. I can probably only spend up to $1500 and would prefer to spend less--maybe even a lot less. I also need to figure out HTF to get rid of my current 250(!) pound TV. Now you all help me with these issues.
  24. How is the BDP-93? (Aside from being 2 less...)
