I'm beginning to think that the 007t---->O2 Mk2 combo just isn't doing it for me. I love the amp with my Lambdas. But I'm disappointed with the O2. I've been trying so hard to love the O2 mk2, but the magic doesn't see to be there. I don't know if this is an mk1 v. mk2 thing or the amp or what, but it is frustrating. Compared to my Signatures, the O2 mk2 does not have the same attack, nor does it seem to be as detailed. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it tonight. Regardless, I look forward to trying the O2 mk1 side-by-side at the NYC meet, and I also look forward to trying out some asskicking SS stat amps to see if what the mk2 needs is a swift kick in the pants. Just when you think you've got the rig all set...

Can someone recommend something cheap I can use as an external USB Amp/DAC for testing purposes? Looking for something under 50 bucks.

good advice so far. I, too, have been partial lately to Shiraz from Oz. You can get cheap stuff that's fun and tasty and from there the sky's the limit. To use a term from our other hobby, I think Shiraz scales nicely. Other things to look out for that will be good bang-for-the-buck and nice examples of their kind: sauvignon blanc from New Zealand or South Africa; French chablis (though usually a bargain only compared to other white burgundies); Austrian white wines; Pinot Noir from Oregon or Washington. Then splurge on a Kistler (chardonnay) from California. The key is to taste as much as possible, preferably with friends so you can discuss it. And don't feel compelled to use winey words. If it tastes like an old shoe, say that. Or if it tastes "real fruity" well that's good too. Enjoy and let us know what you find.

Godammit, now I'm going to get the X5 or X10. Almost a no-brainer and I also loved them at Can-Jam. Now I just need to figure out which one. X10 = more EXTREME bass, correct?

That likely was my fault. I just thought that there must be other Mk2 preferrers (I like making up words) out there to at least make for some dialog.

I emailed with Ti, and he confirmed Dan's assessment above: you really can't go from SPDIF to USB without a computer and the y1 won't do it.

heh, you and me both. I'm sort of re-examining my whole rig here, but what I was originally thinking was sell the DAC1 and get a Pico. I'd use the Pico as a portable, but I was also hoping that it would be possible to use it with the AEX. Basically sell the DAC1 and get a portable amp/DAC with a little left over. Sounds like that's a no go w/r/t the Pico. But maybe the y1...

So here's my pickle. I am currently running my Apple Airport Express through my DAC1 using the AE's optical out. However, if I wanted to use a USB DAC, I would need a converter for the SPDIF--->USB conversion, correct? I'm aware that such things exist, but I'm wondering: a) Do they actually work well in practice, and Would such a converter work coming off the AE instead of directly out of a PC? In other words, most of the converters I have come across tend to have a PC in the mix, which indicates to me that maybe there's a driver issue. But I don't know shit, so help me out.
