i'm not sure if you are the first person to build that particular board or not, but the version 9 board with the to92 worked correctly, and the version you built has just the to92 changed to smt. I would use a scope and signal generator to make sure its working right. Also it has a low impedance input, so anything over a 10k pot is going to cause trouble.

way back when, there were +/-15v regulators just for the opamp. but some of the -15v regulators had issues then, and the voltage ended up -20 or more. this version absolutely requires opa445. if you can get the thing adjusted to 2mv and its completely stable, the opamp is not really required.

measure the voltages on the opamp socket before you stick the opamp in. or possibly the opamp is dead.

so much can go wrong when you are working on something 20+ years old. So many obsolete parts... The people that know what they are doing probably won't touch stuff they do not own, and people willing to modify your stuff probably are the people you don't want touching it.

I did wonder where they got those emblems. The stands would be the cheapest way possible. That transformer box has got to be stupid expensive. At least some of the smaller 9 pin dual triode tubes have a shield that you can tie to ground to prevent crosstalk. not enough pins on an octal to do that.

one other thing about that single input tube, both channels inside the same tube definitely reduce the channel separation. and those monster stax transformers are obviously stax stickers attached to something custom.

Definitely unbalanced input only so middle tube is phase splitter and the other tube is a driver.likely just a push pull amp with a really big output transformer

balanced headphone protector
you can calculate and adjust what trigger voltage you want. all 4 inputs (or 2 if you depopulate) are measured against ground. so any 1 or more of the inputs triggers the relays. power supply ground is signal ground and has to be connected.

not a balanced amp. you need 2 for balanced output, then an unbalanced to balanced converter or a balanced drive signal

Bob Katz on the KGSS Carbon and Dynalo Mk II
so he tested the pure bipolar which is a balanced differential amplifier into 20 ohms. I never said it was designed for 20 ohms, and he tested at 20dBu. Birgir says there are a few iem's that are 20 ohms, have not looked up the specs yet, but this makes an "ELEVEN" look small. It was designed to drive 50 ohm planars. The lcd4 is a 200 ohm planar, so at 20dBu and a thd of about .002% this is ear damaging loud. The lcd4 specs page says it can handle 5 watts. this is beyond stupid. if that is the power level you want, get a dynahi. maybe time to come up with something between a dynalo and a dynahi for people who like to test stuff.

So an absolute maximum open loop gain of less than 1000 and at least 8db down at 20khz due to resistive loads. nice job.

the ones with the evaporator on the back of the unit typically last only a few years when you build them in, because there is no place to get rid of the heat generated. then the compressor burns up, and no way to fix it.

What Are You Building Today
So I do things by specifications. The yggy is a 20 bit monolithic converter, not really designed for audio, and certainly not the fastest settling thing on the planet. Getting that design to do DSD is absolutely impossible without a completely separate DSD section. But it was the first rationally priced thing out there. And that was 3 (??) years ago. The 24 bit - 27 bit R2R things these days (the sign magnitude ones) (even the uncompensated ones) have much better specs, accuracy,speed,glitch energy etc. So it now becomes a matter of whose firmware is best. blurring the lines are hybrid firmware that extends DSD up to 6 bits, upsampling pcm to dsd etc. And for sure the firmware will continue to get better and better. Watching audio-gd, denafrips,holo and soekris duke it out is going to be a great thing for consumers. MSB and T+A and a few other of the high priced spreads (with no reason) are going to have some trouble.
