  1. I got "a love supreme" yesterday for 10$.... beat that
  2. you guys should just let him buy the RSA amp... it actually sounds good to a tube person like me.. better than that gold plated Maestro XLR actually (meet impressions of course, same music/source and headphone). that being said, 10K would be great with... Teac DV60> dynamight (headphone amp and pre)>Firstwatt F1> K1000 i could also go for some DV60>zana deux> Qualia...
  3. I could live with a one month ban... but if it's a permanent ban, I'll not be worth it.
  4. I'm going back to LA.... and i'm going to totally see everything here: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIaBThV1ekc]YouTube - Charles Phoenix's Disneyland Tour of Downtown Los Angeles[/ame]
  5. I was just about to link that same thing... well again in order to emphasize the good deal: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1184472361
  6. um.. i've never meet two sources that sounded identical... but transparency might be an issue... I remember that once I had to use a qualia to get the differences between the VDA-2 and the Monarchy down.... other comparisons are not so close.
  7. my bad (hey, it's finals season and my thinking has gone out the window)... but you should try to get banned.
  8. Ah... welcome. Banned? what you do?
  9. vienna Teng, Palace of the Fine arts- Thursday I think.
  10. Other... I'm not going down by some passive method. If i die, i die fighting the power!
  11. Yea... what i really need to do is take a break from the Opera and come back to it so i won't have my first impression informing what I hear..... but my time with it is just about over. Daba will get it for Sunday and it's off on Monday.
  12. I put up a review about it... but on re-read of it i think i may be being too mean to the amp for little things that i miss when switching from the ZD (but those little things do add up!) Well... too late to change it now....It's not as miserable as i may make it seem at times. it's just very "rounded" and wanting to soften things over.... and the more i listen to it, the more i think "does this thing have a reflective character?"
  13. someone should buy this: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlconv&1184205665
  14. nice dac.... But i have to say that dynamics have always been the lavry's largest weak point, glad to see you upgraded.
  15. boiled sucks, it should be cyro treated and made to military specs.
  16. i guess there are actually somethings RSA can't do poorly.
  17. sorry dude... that's just horrible. Hopefully you'll get it soon.. :'(
  18. against all the odds in the world I tried making a move on the HE60 (forget the qualia and GS1000). I remembered this thing from the meet and neil's system... and i think (wow, my entire audio experience may change, the ZD would be gone, the HD650, nothing would ever be the same again). So yea... a GS1000 is ok, but for 1K that HE60 deal is insane!
  19. You guys were describing the frequency response. Of course that's not a flat "neutral" response! To me, "neutral" has to do with the nature of the tone (per note) coming from the can and how much it's sound reflects the components behind it. For example: the HD650 definitely adds it's own sonic sig onto every insturment, the OII has the least sonic-sig of any can I've ever encountered. I tried to keep my description of this outside of the frequency response problems.
  20. I"ll agree with that. I'd never own a qualia without balancing it out with an HD650.
  21. If I had heard the Qualia before the GS1000 my conclusions would have been very different quoted from the GS1000 appreciation thread:
  22. Now that's going a little far. He's a very nice guy and his output stage does make a good improvement on the original Zhaolu. I definitely like it for under 400$.
  23. yes, it is very dynamic. i guess the difference is the OMZ hits you with a house-sized pillow, the vda-2 shoots you with a bullet. Ori obviously liked the big sound coming off the walls with the OMZ, whereas I was more impressed with the deep vibrations i heard from the vda-2. it's a matter of taste i think.
  24. Hi Just say no. I know what he likes, what he listens to and I can understand why he thinks the dac he has on his hands is sooo good. the OMZ (ori modded zhaolu) has one of the most involving, thick, and splashy mid-ranges of any source out there. by that I mean, that it exhibits the midrange in such a manner that it fools the listener into thinking that he is hearing musical cues, big time detail and a "musical" presentation. IMO, musical cues and holographic imaging are exhibited in the treble and deep (deep) bass, not in the midrange.. what the OMZ is exhibiting is just the thickness of the midrange. the OMZ also has other serious issues with treble extension and bass extension; neither have any real texture, impact or brilliance. while there is nothing particularly rolled off, the reach and quality just isn't there. the Frequency extension just doesn't go well beyond the low and high midranges. The biggest problem i have with it is that it just makes me nervous and feeling kind of sick to listen to. by that I mean, i'll listen and think (wow, there is something wrong here), and when the VDA-2 is on i feel that the control and fullness of the frequency range is back and I calm down and can enjoy the music much more. Iron Dreamer said that there was a "glare" in the upper midrange, and I certainly felt the existence of one when I listened at Ori's house. there was just something "wrong" with what i was hearing from the recordings that I'm so used to. there are some very good qualities to it (sorta), the midrange's thickness and splashiness remind me of the Meier Opera's dac and crossfeed, it has the same affect. the overall midrange detail, and separation are actually quite good, and it certainly does sound musically competent in it's midrange.
  25. you know, hang out with friends is much like hanging out on head-case... a lot of waiting around for someone to say something new.
