  1. Do any headcasers live in Colorado, or spent anytime there? Melody and I are trying to come up with vacation ideas over thanksgiving (Wednesday through sunday) and are considering going to Boulder. We are looking for a relaxing vacation, nice hotel, good food, etc., but somewhere we can do cool hiking and outdoor stuff as well. I was out in Denver a couple years ago for some phish shows and thought it was beautiful, and would like to explore more of what Colorado has to offer. Open to any Colorado ideas, or any ideas for a vacation like I described. Our ulterior motive is we are silently scouting out potential places to move to as well. While I do love the South we'd generally like to live somewhere with less of a morally conservative populace, and also somewhere less hot.
  2. This is the least important thing in the world, but is it still possible to view a list of members and sort by join date? That's how I know who to welcome in the welcome thread. As it stands there is the most recent member shown on the main page, but by just relying on that i'm sure i'm missing some other people. thanks!
  3. Welcome ‌@4tray! welcome to headcase new friend. showers of joy for you sir or ma'am, showers of joy. we are ready to discuss headpone! early in your meditation journey you will no doubt think the moments of oneness and connectedness and joy you feel are the point of the meditation process. however, these are just another thing you can become attached to. William James put it best in his work "The Varieties of Religious Experience", paraphrasing here, but basically the only way you can determine the authenticity of a spiritual experience are by the fruits of said experience. So if you are still a miserable asshole after said "spiritual experience" then really its not much of a spiritual experience is it? Regardless, the point isn't to have these experiences, since so many of them are impermanent (which is really what the Buddha meant when he said "all life is suffering". suffering is probably a poor translation, I think the real idea is that nothing in life is permanent, so you can't all your serenity to be contingent on anything in life, including these moments we call spiritual experience), the question instead you need to ask your is what is the journey? also scroll up a bit for my flat bacon trick!
  4. thanks all! great day so far. at a clients office today, later we have open house at the firm for all the local accounting students to come and stand around nervously in their suits. I like this day because its fun to help the students feel at ease, all you gotta do is talk to them. so its a good day for a birthday!
  5. 10-4, thanks for the suggestion. My Dad has terrible hearing, and he didn't go to a crapload of concerts like me, so I wonder if it is somewhat genetic?. Having said that, I have been using earplugs at shows since 2009, and rarely go to any superloud club shows these days, so I have been taking protective measures, at least since 2009. But I will go get my hearing professionally checked. Thanks again.
  6. I think I'm significantly less sensitive to brightness than I was say ten years ago (33 now, 34 in a week or so). In fact cans or speakers without a nice, sparkly treble are kind of boring to me. This could be age, could be hearing loss from live music, but it is a trend I've definitely noticed.
  7. Been through a few SF books this summer: Neal Stephenson - Seveneves -hell yeah orbital mechanics. LOVED this book, loved its epic scope, even if the long explanatory hard science parts of the books were really long, even for Neal Stephnson Neal Stephenson - Reamde - surprised I hadn't read this yet, really enjoyable read, really a breeze to read after Seveneves. I felt like the final scene could have been shortened by a hundred pages or so but overall it was great fun. Kim Stanley Robinson - Aurora - do you like generation ships? do you like AI? do you not care that much about character development? check this shit out then. I thoroughly enjoyed it, epic scope, lots of hard science, great narrator. And I'm just starting Ready Player One now. Enjoying it so far, think its going to be fun.
  8. this "spectrum" theme is really beautiful, I love it!
  9. Welcome to headcase @IPS Support! It appears you are an administrator, which kind of scares me a little. Do you like headpones? Thank you for your support. Also french toast at home is easier than you think. It is inspiring too. Why should the France have all the sweet toast? You can make it in America too. Get a large flat dish. Crack two eggs into it. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat this up. Add a cup of milk or milk substitute (I like using silk soy vanilla) and combine thoroughly. Get a hearty bread and soak it in the mixture. Melt butter in a pan and throw your soaked bread in there on medium heat. About a minute a side is all you need, but you can cook longer if you want it to be a bit firmer. Top with maple syrup and a side of flat bacon (see posts above) and you have a breakfast that will stick to your ribs! The above will make about 4-5 pieces of french toast.
  10. totally true. i was having difficulty with really twisty bacon and did some research. works every time for me. i still get slight curls on the ends sometimes but generally it stays pretty flat.
  11. Welcome @dmeuir75! congratulations for starting teh journey headphone. headcase offers you a message of peace! try this breakfast "life hack" next time you are cooking breakfast: to keep your bacon from curling, put it in the pan before it is hot. you'll miss that sweet sizzle sound of bacon hitting a hot pan, but your bacon will stay relatively flat while cooking. thanks science!
  12. its pretty much the most basic thing ever but its delicious: 1 onion 1 jalapeno 1 can rotel 1 pound lean ground beef 1 packet taco seasoning 1-2 cups of short grain brown rice (or whatever rice you like) 1 shitload of garlic Cheese of your choice 1. Cook rice in rice cooker 2. Dice up your onion and jalapeno and shitload of garlic 3. Throw all veggies in a large saucepan with a little olive oil on medium heat, saute until onions start to get translucent. Season veggies with a lil' salt n pepper. 4. Add ground beef and brown 5. Drain the ground beef if you want. I don't, but people seem to like doing that so whatever. 6. Add taco seasoning packet and stir well 7. Add can of rotel tomatoes, heat. 8. Throw in cup or two of cooked rice, stir it up, let get friendly 9. Add cheese either to the whole dish or individual portions, as you like. really easy, stupid delicious, very spicy. of course you can get creative with the veggies you use. I threw in diced celery last time instead of jalapeno and it was the bomb.
  13. yeah it used to use one of those free forum software hosting sites, then I changed it to a dial up BBS with lots of gifs and warez, now it is a literal bulletin board with just pictures of my dogs and a recipe for mexican rice tacked up there. pretty cool though.
  14. Rest assured this level of hard work and commitment to better the community would never happen on my forum. Thanks Todd!
  15. So I guess this is the least Microsoft has ever fucked up ever. Super easy install over here, everything runs perfectly (games, audio, etc), love the interface. Pretty much perfect for me.
  16. I think I'm going to. Usually I'm suspicious of new versions of Windows, since there have been a few missteps in the past, but the reviews I've read of 10 are very positive. I've never used 8, so I'll be going straight from 7 to 10. And the price is right as well!
  17. AcquiredTaste, welcome to head-case! Rest assured, no need to "acquire the taste" of this place hahahahahahahaha HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH YEAH WELCOME! OmerYair welcome good sir or ma'am! The wonders of head-case lay before you. Delve deep and ye shall go deep. stewing, welcome to head-case! Apparently we are more of a sous vide place rather than a stew place. I myself am not really sure what sous vide is but I think it has something to do with boiling meat in ziploc bags. I can't say this excites me but good warning, there are some weirdos here, the kind of people who boil meat in bags and think they are fancy because the method has a french name or whatever. To all of you: each journey begins with a single rain drop on the path to enlightenment/headphones/boiled meat/and apparently whiskey.
  18. tokyofansile, welcome to headcase new friend! May your journey here be long and fruitful, and lead you to wonderful places along the way! Always remember that discipline beats motivation every time. Get that cardio going sir or ma'am, even if you don't want to. You'll feel fantastic afterwards and sleep better as well. And sleep is more important than you think!
  19. Also mandatory, just not quite as mandatory as green onion. Green onion is most mandatory.
  20. True. I have never heard an odac or an o2. And actually I never listened to a single ray amp either.
  21. Welcome to headcase, budiman0416! I hope your stay is a pleasant one. Leftover rice? Making fried rice is easier then you think. A quick google will turn up any number of easy recipes. Just make sure you add green onion, because without green onion fried rice tastes like nothing.
  22. It's funny about Ray, I mean he was THE hot shit for so long. Seemed unstoppable. Right as the headphone thing began to take off and the wider audiophile world began to take notice, he started getting mentioned in your Stereophiles and what have you. When I'd be on a non-headphone centric audio forum, his name always came up when people who were not knowledgeable about headphones were asking for amp recommendations. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Ray's amps were all a bit too cosmetically bold for my tastes, but still his cases were clean as fuck and certainly got your attention. And then one day it just seemed like no one cared anymore (by which I mean no one at HF). Weird. Maybe it was the 11th portable amp. Really I think you only need 1 of those.
  23. I'm going to use this thread to welcome new members and provide inspiring messages to them. Welcome gwrskien! hope you are having a phenomenal day and you find what you are looking for at headcase. remember the best part of screwing up dinner is you can always order a pizza. and pizza is awesome, no matter who you are, unless you can't eat cheese. some places have that vegan cheese though which is pretty good. oily but good.
  24. Sitting here holding my HA-1 while it silently weeps. Y'all hurt its feelings. Damn it its doing the best it can, its a Sabre DAC for chrissakes.
  25. Oppo HA-1. I know its not a favorite around here and maybe doesn't have enough inputs but it's a fine piece of gear. I'm about to go through a sell off and build my desktop rig around it.
