Oppo PM3
pulled up the track on tidal. 18 seconds, the brushes sound clear to me on the PM3. For perspective I also listened with the V-Moda M100 I have here at work, sounded fine on those to. If I had to choose I would say the brushes were slightly more present on the M100, but really its close, and I never would have thought to look for a difference unless you pointed it out.

so you're saying this is obama's fault?

The analog thread.
I've been reading about this a lot, namely that the demand for vinyl is higher then the world's capacity to produce. In other words, its up to somebody to take a gamble that this vinyl popularity thing will continue, and invest in more production facilities and skilled employees. If the gamble pays off they make money. seems like a lot of hand-wringing for a problem that market should correct eventually.

Saw Gov't Mule in New Orleans two weekends ago. It was 'aight. I still think Warren is great but I think I've hit an age where Mule just doesn't do it for me anymore. Next night saw The Metermen at the Joy Theater in New Orleans. This is the George Porter Jr, Leo, Zig, and Page McConnell (from Phish) so basically its the original Meters less art neville add page. This was a really great show, as The Metermen always are. Sitins from Warren Haynes and Eric Krasno were a treat. Up next: Bonnaroo!!

Schiit Yggdrasil
From the Yggdrasil manual: We recommend leaving Yggdrasil on continuously for best performance. Seriously. No kidding. Yes, we know, this sounds like hoo-ha about “burn-in” and magick discs/stones/markers/etc. But in Yggy’s case, this is a real thing, and a serious recommendation. Why? Because the mil-spec D/A converters in Yggy really do operate best once they’re up to temperature. As with a lot of other components inside the box. So, the logical solution (at a power cost of $50-100 per year, depending on where you live) is simply to turn it on, and leave it on. This is facilitated by inconveniently placing the power switch in the rear. So what will you hear as Yggy warms up? Hell, we’re not going to speculate on what you hear...but we’re sure you’ll hear impressions from plenty of reviewers, and you can listen for yourself, and make your own decisions. Sooooo...turn it on, leave it on, and see if you can’t hear a difference after it’s been on for a few days. And yes, this applies to first turn-on, too. I know nothing of electronics, but generally I believe the Schiit guys are not full of shit, so in this instance I take them at their word.

Sweet. I'm pretty full up DAC wise but am interested in any impressions you care to provide.

WiMP comes to the UK/US as Tidal
http://thirdmanrecords.com/news/tidal-subscription-promotion-for-vault-members Really great Tidal promotion for Third Man Vault subscribers. In an nutshell, if you are a subscriber to the Third Man quarterly vault subscription, you can enter a promo code to get Tidal HiFi for $5/month. If you aren't familiar with the vault, you subscribe and pay $60 per quarter, and quarterly they ship you some kind of awesome vinyl package. I've been subscribing since this summer, and if you like Jack White and third man type stuff the packages are awesome. Anyway, I had to cancel my account and start a new one to make the promo work, which sucks, but worth it to get Tidal for $5/month.

Another super cute movie is "History of Future Folk". About aliens who come to earth to destroy it, but hear music for the first time and fall in love with it, and start a bluegrass duo instead. Just insanely adorable from beginning to end.

And now what did you do TODAY?
I just setup my Oppo BDP-95 to use DLNA streaming from JRiver on my PC. That was like the easiest shit in the world. My entire library now available to stream to the home theater. Don't know why I never did this.

Closed headphones
The AT woodies fall into that weird headphone category of cans i love to buy and own but don't enjoy listening to. Similar to the PS1000 and GS1000. I'm not falling in that trap again. The W5000 in particular was super comfortable on my head and super pretty to look at, they just sound totally bassless and lifeless.

Alright lets talk about this. Digital audio revolution or just another DAC with a fancy pants implementation? http://schiit.com/products/yggdrasil The FAQ, as usual, is worth your time.

WiMP comes to the UK/US as Tidal
I just hope they continue to provide 16/44 streaming, even though that's apparently not the marketing focus anymore. Don't fuck this up for me Jay-Z.

Oppo HA-1 Headphone Amplifier
I use the preamp out to drive a pair of $100 M-Audio computer speakers. Video games sound great. seriously no issues but I can't make any comments on fidelity given the speakers.

Don't know if I've bragged on my local record store before, but I consistently find amazing deals on rare records at Mobile Records. The guy who runs it Keith is a real pro. From Australia but fell in love with a southerner and relocated to the deep south. Yesterday's haul: Peter Gabriel - Melt: Apparently he recorded alternate versions of his early albums with German lyrics. I had no idea. This is the german version, haven't listened yet. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead: original Rough Trade pressing, hell yes! Pearl Jam - Vitalogy: original pressing, not the remixed recent release. hell yes again! Also noted, but did not purchase, he has an original pressing of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Too rich for me at $300 but was happy just to see it.

Oppo PM3
Cosmetics can be subjective, I think the pleather looks fine. I think we generally agree the headphone has top notch fit and finish, especially at this price point. I've only used the PM-3 straight out of my headphone, and it sounds great, but I agree I'll want to add an external amp at some point, I could use a little more volume on some tracks. I haven't even tried it with a desktop amp yet because the PM3 hasn't left my work since I got it. The bass lacks midbass impact but I don't find it wanting at all, which is odd because lack of bass is usually a big complaint of mine. I guess its because they are planars and so you can really hear all of the bass, even if you can't feel it strongly. I do think they could use a tad bit more high frequency sparkle but its not something I think about when I'm listening. It really is a winner. If you need a closed headphone for really long listening sessions I can't think of a better option. Super duper comfortable, super easy going sound. I think A- is an appropriate grade.

I saw Paul McCartney twice last year, its a really fantastic show. You will be satisfied. And Metallica never disappoints. Lots of other great acts on that lineup. Don't miss Flying Lotus!

Point and shoot camera recommendations?
In a classic headcase move, a headcaser goes for the budget option and immediately a tweak is recommended. Seriously those look nice, thanks.

Point and shoot camera recommendations?
Thanks all, I bought Jeff's Canon S100. He gave me a good deal. Figured I'd go with an inexpensive option first to see how much I actually use it. In a year if I catch the photography bug I'll look into upgrading.
