The Joys Of Being Nude
Well, for my new analog rig I'll be going with the DV 10x5: Plus I'm getting the dealer to install and properly align it for me before he ships it. And I've ordered some Onzow Zerodust at a significant discount from a guy at the sh.tv forum who is from Tokyo. This will be the only way I'm going to clean my stylus. No more magic eraser for me!

Dynahi
Just showed up today: stepped attenuator, four inputs, high/low gain switch First impressions: this thing is HUGE, and pretty heavy (18 lbs maybe). Usually when I see something online, it ends up being smaller in person. I honestly expected the Dynahi to be about the size of a PPX3 chassis, and its actually as wide as the Melos and a bit taller! I had a brief scare when I was trying to hook it up. The labels on the source selection knob on the front don't match up to the plugs on the back, so for a while I wasn't getting any sound. Now I have the ICs running into the DAC inputs, but my source selection knob is on tuner. Actually, the inputs on the back are labeled CD - DAC - AUX - TUNER, while the inputs on the front knob are labeled CD - DAC - TUNE - DVD. So right off the bat this amp feels pretty ghetto. But what matters most is sound, right? So let me give a listen with all my cans for a while here.

Did I wreck my hearing in just one week?
My Sennheisers have this warning on them. Lots of headphone amp manufacturer manuals have this warning (I know Meier does for a fact).

A Search for the All in One: USB DAC + Headphone Amp One Box Solution
So when running a computer as source setup into an all-in-one amp + DAC, what is everyone's opinion on the best connection? I did USB to my Stello DA100, but always had the suspicion I might have been better off buying an Emu or equivalent soundcard with a decent optical transport, and even better, its own ASIO drivers. Any thoughts, opinions, irrefutable facts, or random profanities?

best closed headphones?
Hmmm, looks like I'll have to have an L3000 room at next years head-case 2008 international meet. next year we are looking to have the meet somewhere in either the phillipines or north mississipi.

A Search for the All in One: USB DAC + Headphone Amp One Box Solution
but OT, if you put a gun to my head and made me choose, i'd definitely go headroom. this is based on no actual experience spent with headroom products, since I have never heard them.

A Search for the All in One: USB DAC + Headphone Amp One Box Solution
sometimes when I want to goto the headroom site real quick, I accidentally type in www.headroom.com instead of www.headphone.com. Does anybody else do this? I've been too afraid to go past the first screen on the www.headroom.com site.

Grado speakers, WTF?
wow, I didn't notice it in the hf thread, but those stands look almost exactly like my $200 gusdorf circuit city stand, except the wood is lighter.

A Totally Unnecessary Case For My HP2
Welcome to headcase, Veniogenesis! Luckily, the foam inside the case has no discernible smell. But you know, the inside of both my HD600 and HD650 stock boxes stink with a peculiar odor. Hmmm...

$10K, what should I get?
True, but you will find that everyone here is a harsh critic of Ray Samuels amps for a variety of reasons. I myself have never heard an RS amp. But going off what I've heard, I don't plan on owning one. Maybe I'll hear one at a meet one day and it'll blow my mind or something, but I don't think so.

My Mom Says I'm Cool
Actually I have no idea! Whatever tubes were in it when I bought it. I guess I could crack it open and check it out...

My Mom Says I'm Cool
After doing some more extensive comparisons, I decided I do quite like Sennheisers with the Melos. There was a sharpness in the highs when listening to large classical works with the HD650 + PPX3. The Melos lacks the impact and "slam" of the PPX3, but the highs are a bit smoother. I'm just going to stop posting impressions altogether until I've owned the gear for at least a month.

A Totally Unnecessary Case For My HP2
If when I got into this hobby you told me I would end up spending as much on a case for headphones as I did for my first pair of headphones, well... I was intrigued by the case jpak uses for his HP2s, so per his suggestion I went by my local Ritz Camera store and picked up this Quantaray case. It comes with a large chunk of foam in the middle that can be customized to your camera's (or headphones) needs. So I went crazy on it with a kitchen knife, and this is what I ended up with: Not sure what I'll do with the cable. Probably keep it similar to how it is, in a large loop around the case, but maybe cut a little path leading from each driver to take the stress off that connection.

So close to perfection, then...
Big bingo here. My house is old. Its all windows and wood floors. There really is no way I can get a real "audiophile" speaker setup going in this house without some serious modifications. I do have some speakers and a sub in the den, and I found I can put on some crazy hip-hop in there when I want a bass fix , but all my good sources are in my small listening area/office. I'm glad the floor in here is carpeted wall-to-wall, though, so it doesn't mess with my turntable.

So I sent in my HD580 for repair and got back a....
I initially liked the 595s upfront take on the Sennheiser sound. Then I realized I had no desire for a Sennheiser that tried to be a Grado. I have Grados when I want a Grado. The HD595 was very comfy, however. Still, comfort wasn't enough to prevent me from selling them.

Future of Computing??
Very cool. Reminds me of the Neal Stephenson book The Diamond Age. I'm gunna go join the drummers.

Thinking about getting an L3000...
Great looking pen. I admit I am a sucker for sterling. Still it looks like there is a problem with the writing end there. Where is the nib?

Thinking about getting an L3000...
Nice pen! I'm not a huge fan of Watermans, but the Serenite is a looker.

The Live Music Thread
Just got back from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Best I've ever seen them live, so amazing. Got to shake Bela and Victor's hands after the show. One thing that is appealing about these guys is that they are all gods of their respective instruments, but they all share a real, true humility that is just so attractive. The show was small, probably not a big money maker, but they still took the time to come into the crowd afterwards and sign autographs and take pictures with everyone until the crowd cleared out. I just hope they keep playing and touring until they are like, 100 years old.

recommendations for good XLR interconnects
This is the advice I was given. I just use Blue Jeans LC-1 interconnects and Volex power cords. Not until I'm 99.9% satisfied with my other components will I start considering buying spendier cables.

I recorded an album
True. Even the complete columbia sessions of miles davis and john coltrane only has about 43 seconds of banter.
